St Mary's Church, Tissington [Map]. The church dates from the 12th century, and the chancel and south porch still date from this time. The doorway has a Norman tympanum with two standing sculpted figures. The church was restored in 1854 when a new aisle was added on the north side.

Monument to, below, Francis Fitzherbert and his two wives Jane Armstrong and Elizabeth Bullock (age 67), and, above, his son John Fitzherbert (age 43) and his wife Elizabeth Fitzherbert of Norbury. The arms above show two of the arms of the Fitzherbert family. Below may be seen the Fitzherbert crest of a clenched fist - see also Church of St Barlok, Norbury [Map] for earlier monuments to the Fitzherberts of Norbury..
On the side of the monument a memorial to Elizabeth Fitzherbert (age 11), daughter of John and Elizabeth, who died aged eighteen and siz months.

Mary Cromwell: Around 1631 she was born to Thomas Cromwell 1st Earl Ardglass and Elizabeth Meverell Countess Ardglass. Before 6th April 1676 William Fitzherbert and she were married. She the daughter of Thomas Cromwell 1st Earl Ardglass and Elizabeth Meverell Countess Ardglass.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Reynold Abel Alleyne 2nd Baronet: On 10th June 1789 he was born to John Gay Alleyn 1st Baronet. On 7th December 1801 John Gay Alleyn 1st Baronet died. His son Reynold succeeded 2nd Baronet Alleyne of Four Hills in Barbados.
John Gay Newton Alleyne 3rd Baronet: On 8th September 1820 he was born to Reynold Abel Alleyne 2nd Baronet and Rebecca Alton Lady Alleyne in Barbados. On 11th March 1851 he and Augusta Isabella Fitzherbert Lady Alleyne were married. On 20th February 1912 he died. His grandson John succeeded 4th Baronet Alleyne of Four Hills in Barbados.
Augusta Isabella Fitzherbert Lady Alleyne: On 3rd September 1828 she was born to Henry FitzHerbert 3rd Baronet and Agnes Beresford Lady Fitzherbert. On 9th September 1910 Augusta Isabella Fitzherbert Lady Alleyne died.
