The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 31st December 1299 Ralph Basset 1st Baron Basset Drayton (age 35) died. His son Ralph (age 21) succeeded 2nd Baron Basset Drayton.
On 27th March 1304 Ralph Basset 2nd Baron Basset Drayton (age 26) and Joan Grey Baroness Basset Drayton (age 21) were married. She by marriage Baroness Basset Drayton. They were first cousin once removed.
On 25th February 1343 Ralph Basset 2nd Baron Basset Drayton (age 65) died. His grandson Ralph (age 8) succeeded 3rd Baron Basset Drayton. Joan Beauchamp Baroness Basset Drayton by marriage Baroness Basset Drayton.

On 30th November 1797 Francis Basset 1st Baron Dunstanville and Basset Stratton (age 40) was created 1st Baron Basset Stratton with special remainder to his daughter Frances Basset 2nd Baroness Basset (age 16).
On 14th February 1835 Francis Basset 1st Baron Dunstanville and Basset Stratton (age 77) died. His daughter Frances (age 53) succeeded 2nd Baroness Basset Stratton. Baron Dunstanville extinct.
