Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 14th October 1642 Richard Newport 1st Baron Newport [aged 55] was created 1st Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire; by King Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland [aged 41] in return for having provided £6000 for the purchase of artillery before the Battle of Edge Hill.
On 8th February 1651 Richard Newport 1st Baron Newport [aged 63] died. His son Francis [aged 30] succeeded 2nd Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire. Diana Russell Countess Bradford by marriage Baroness Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire.
On 19th September 1708 Francis Newport 1st Earl Bradford [aged 88] died at Twickenham, Richmond. His son Richard [aged 64] succeeded 2nd Earl Bradford, 2nd Viscount Newport of Bradford in Shropshire, 3rd Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire. Mary Wilbraham Countess Bradford [aged 47] by marriage Countess Bradford.
On 13th June 1723 Richard Newport 2nd Earl Bradford [aged 78] died at Soho Square [Map]. He was buried at St Andrew's Church, Wroxeter [Map]. His son Henry [aged 40] succeeded 3rd Earl Bradford, 3rd Viscount Newport of Bradford in Shropshire, 4th Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire.
On 23rd December 1734 Henry Newport 3rd Earl Bradford [aged 51] died at St James's Palace [Map]. He was buried at Westminster Abbey [Map] on 20th January 1734. His brother Thomas [aged 38] succeeded 4th Earl Bradford, 4th Viscount Newport of Bradford in Shropshire, 5th Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire.
On 18th April 1762 Thomas Newport 4th Earl Bradford [aged 66] died at Weston Park, Staffordshire. Earl Bradford, Viscount Newport of Bradford in Shropshire, Baron Newport of High Ercall in Shropshire extinct.
