The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." He the son of William Stanley 6th Earl of Derby (age 65) and Elizabeth Vere Countess Derby (age 50).
On 7th March 1628 James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby (age 21) was created 1st Baron Strange Knockin.
On 15th October 1651 James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby (age 44) died. His son Charles (age 23) succeeded 8th Earl Derby, 2nd Baron Strange Knockin.
On 21st December 1672 Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby (age 44) died. His son William (age 17) succeeded 9th Earl Derby, 3rd Baron Strange Knockin.
On 5th November 1702 William Stanley 9th Earl of Derby (age 47) died. On His brother James (age 38) succeeded 10th Earl Derby. Baron Strange Knockin abeyant between his two daughters Henrietta Stanley Countess Anglesey (age 15) and Elizabeth Stanley. On the death of Elizabeth Stanley in 1714 the abeyance was terminated in favour of Henrietta Stanley Countess Anglesey.
In 1714 Elizabeth Stanley died. In 1714 Her sister Henrietta (age 27) abeyance terminated 4th Baroness Strange Knockin.
On 26th June 1718 Henrietta Stanley Countess Anglesey (age 31) died. Her daughter Henrietta (age 2) succeeded 5th Baroness Strange Knockin.
In 1732 Henrietta Ashburnham 5th Baroness Strange Knockin (age 16) died. Her great uncle James (age 67) succeeded 6th Baron Strange Knockin.
On 1st February 1736 James Stanley 10th Earl of Derby (age 71) died. His sixth cousin Edward (age 46) succeeded 11th Earl Derby. A rare succession; they shared a great great great great grand-parent. His first cousin once removed James (age 45) succeeded 7th Baron Strange Knockin.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 13th October 1805 Charlotte Murray Duchess Atholl (age 74) died. Her son John (age 50) succeeded 9th Baron Strange Knockin.
On 29th September 1830 John Murray 4th Duke Atholl (age 74) died. His son John (age 52) succeeded 5th Duke Atholl, 6th Marquess Atholl, 7th Earl Atholl, 8th Earl Tullibardine, 10th Baron Strange Knockin.
On 14th September 1846 John Murray 5th Duke Atholl (age 68) died at Greville Place St John's Wood. His nephew George (age 31) succeeded 6th Duke Atholl, 7th Marquess Atholl, 8th Earl Atholl, 9th Earl Tullibardine, 11th Baron Strange Knockin.
On 16th January 1864 George Augustus Frederick Murray 6th Duke Atholl (age 49) died. His son John (age 23) succeeded 7th Duke Atholl, 8th Marquess Atholl, 9th Earl Atholl, 10th Earl Tullibardine, 12th Baron Strange Knockin, 3rd Baron Glenlyon of Glenlyon in Perthshire.
On 20th January 1917 John Murray aka Stewart-Murray 7th Duke of Atholl (age 76) died. His son John (age 45) succeeded 8th Duke Atholl, 9th Marquess Atholl, 10th Earl Atholl, 11th Earl Tullibardine, 7th Baron Percy, 13th Baron Strange Knockin, 4th Baron Glenlyon of Glenlyon in Perthshire.
On 16th March 1942 John Stewart-Murray 8th Duke of Atholl (age 70) died. His brother James (age 62) succeeded 9th Duke Atholl, 10th Marquess Atholl, 11th Earl Atholl, 12th Earl Tullibardine, 8th Baron Percy, 14th Baron Strange Knockin, 5th Baron Glenlyon of Glenlyon in Perthshire.
On 8th May 1957 James Stewart-Murray 9th Duke of Atholl (age 77) died unmarried. His fourth cousin Iain (age 25) succeeded 10th Duke Atholl, 11th Marquess Atholl, 12th Earl Atholl, 13th Earl Tullibardine, 6th Baron Glenlyon of Glenlyon in Perthshire. Baron Strange Knockin abeyant. His fourth cousin once removed Hugh (age 43) succeeded 9th Baron Percy.
