Battle of Solway Moss

In 1544 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 49) was created 1st Baron Wharton for his success at the Battle of Solway Moss. Eleanor Stapleton Baroness Wharton by marriage Baroness Wharton.

On 18th November 1561 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 66) and Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton (age 37) were married. She by marriage Baroness Wharton. The difference in their ages was 29 years. She the daughter of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre.

On 23rd August 1568 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 73) died. His son Thomas (age 48) succeeded 2nd Baron Wharton.

In 1572 Thomas Wharton 2nd Baron Wharton (age 52) died at Canon Row. His son Philip (age 17) succeeded 3rd Baron Wharton. Frances Clifford Baroness Wharton by marriage Baroness Wharton.

In 1625 Philip Wharton 3rd Baron Wharton (age 70) died. His grandson Philip (age 11) succeeded 4th Baron Wharton.

On 23rd September 1632 Philip Wharton 4th Baron Wharton (age 19) and Elizabeth Wandesford Baroness Wharton (age 19) were married. She by marriage Baroness Wharton.

On 7th September 1637 Philip Wharton 4th Baron Wharton (age 24) and Jane Goodwin Baroness Wharton (age 19) were married. She by marriage Baroness Wharton. They were sixth cousins.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 4th February 1696 Philip Wharton 4th Baron Wharton (age 82) died. His son Thomas (age 47) succeeded 5th Baron Wharton. Lucy Loftus Marchioness Wharton (age 26) by marriage Baroness Wharton.

On 12th April 1715 Thomas Wharton 1st Marquess Wharton (age 66) died. He was buried at Upper Winchendon, Buckinghamshire. His son Philip succeeded 2nd Marquess Wharton, 2nd Earl Wharton, 6th Baron Wharton.

On 31st May 1731 Philip Wharton 1st Duke Wharton died. Duke Wharton, Marquess Wharton and Earl Wharton extinct. Baron Wharton abeyant between Jane Wharton (age 25) and Lucy Wharton Lady Morice.

In 1739 Lucy Wharton Lady Morice died. Her sister Jane (age 33) abeyance terminated 7th Baroness Wharton.

In 1761 Jane Wharton 7th Baroness Wharton (age 55) died. Baron Wharton abeyant. The abeyance was terminated in 1916 in favour of Charles Kemeys-Tynte 8th Baron Wharton. Her estates, including the valuable mineral mines centred on Fremington in Yorkshire,

On 15th February 1916 Charles Kemeys-Tynte 8th Baron Wharton (age 39) abeyance terminated 8th Baron Wharton. He was descended from Philip Wharton 4th Baron Wharton by way of Mary Wharton, Jane Kemeys Lady Tynte, Jane Tynte, Jane Hassell, Charles John Kemeys-Tynte, Charles John Kemeys-Tynte, Charles Kemeys Kemeys-Tynte and his father Halswell Milborne Kemeys-Tynte.

On 4th March 1934 Charles Kemeys-Tynte 8th Baron Wharton (age 57) died. His son John (age 26) succeeded 9th Baron Wharton.

On 22nd July 1969 John Kemeys-Tynte 9th Baron Wharton (age 61) died. His sister Elisabeth (age 63) succeeded 10th Baroness Wharton.

On 4th May 1974 Elisabeth Kemeys-Tynte 10th Baroness Wharton (age 68) died. Baron Wharton abeyant for sixteen years until 1990 when it was brought out of abeyance in favour of her elder daughter, Ziki Robertson 11th Baroness Wharton (age 40).

On 4th April 1990 Ziki Robertson 11th Baroness Wharton (age 56) abeyance terminated 11th Baroness Wharton.

On 15th May 2000 Ziki Robertson 11th Baroness Wharton (age 66) died. Her son Myles (age 35) succeeded 12th Baron Wharton.
