The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 28th December 1812 John Lister-Kaye 1st Baronet (age 40) was created 1st Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire. Baronet Kaye of Woodsome Hall in Yorkshire held by his father John Lister-Kaye 5th Baronet had expired with the death of his uncle Reverend Richard Kaye 6th Baronet in 1809.

On 28th February 1827 John Lister-Kaye 1st Baronet (age 55) died. His son John (age 25) succeeded 2nd Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.

On 13th April 1871 John Lister Lister-Kaye 2nd Baronet (age 69) died. His grandson John (age 18) succeeded 3rd Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.

On 27th May 1924 John Lister-Kaye 3rd Baronet (age 71) died. His brother Cecil (age 70) succeeded 4th Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.

On 27th January 1931 Cecil Lister-Kaye 4th Baronet (age 77) died. His son Kenelm (age 38) succeeded 5th Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.

On 28th February 1955 Kenelm Arthur Lister-Kaye 5th Baronet (age 62) died. His first cousin once removed Lister (age 81) succeeded 6th Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.

On 12th February 1962 Lister Lister-Kaye 6th Baronet (age 88) died. His son John (age 48) succeeded 7th Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.

In 1982 John Christopher Lister Lister-Kaye 7th Baronet (age 68) died. His son John (age 35) succeeded 8th Baronet Lister-Kaye of Grange in Yorkshire.
