The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 23rd July 1679 Charles Gerard 1st Earl Macclesfield (age 61) was created 1st Earl Macclesfield, 1st Viscount Brandon of Brandon in Suffolk.Jeanne de Civelle Countess Macclesfield by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 7th January 1694 Charles Gerard 1st Earl Macclesfield (age 76) died. His son Charles (age 35) succeeded 2nd Earl Macclesfield, 2nd Viscount Brandon of Brandon in Suffolk, 2nd Baron Gerard of Brandon in Suffolk. Anna Mason Countess Macclesfield (age 26) by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 5th November 1701 Charles Gerard 2nd Earl Macclesfield (age 42) died without legitimate issue; his two children with Anna Mason Countess Macclesfield (age 33) had been declared illegitimate. His brother Fitton (age 38) succeeded 3rd Earl Macclesfield, 3rd Viscount Brandon of Brandon in Suffolk, 3rd Baron Gerard of Brandon in Suffolk.

On 26th December 1702 Fitton Gerard 3rd Earl Macclesfield (age 39) died. Earl Macclesfield, Viscount Brandon of Brandon in Suffolk and Baron Gerard of Brandon in Suffolk extinct.

On 15th November 1712 Charles Mohun 4th Baron Mohun Okehampton (age 37) duelled with James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon (age 54) at Hyde Park [Map] over a legal dispute about the estate and inheritance of the late Earl Macclesfield. Mohun had married Charlotte Orby Baroness Mohun Okehampton grand-daughter of Charles Gerard 1st Earl Macclesfield. James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon had married Elizabeth Gerard Duchess Brandon (age 32). The two seconds, Macartney and Colonel Hamilton, were both charged as accessories to murder. Hamilton gave himself up, Macartney fled into exile in Hanover. Colonel Hamilton was found guilty of manslaughter.

James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon died from wounds received duelling. His son James (age 9) succeeded 5th Duke Hamilton, 2nd Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 2nd Baron Dutton of Cheshire.

Charles Mohun 4th Baron Mohun Okehampton died from wounds received duelling; his father had also been killed in a duel. Baron Mohun Okehampton and Baronet Mohun of Boconnoc in Cornwall extinct.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 17th March 1764 George Parker 2nd Earl Macclesfield (age 68) died. His son Thomas (age 40) succeeded 3rd Earl Macclesfield. Mary Heathcote Countess Macclesfield by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 9th February 1795 Thomas Parker 3rd Earl Macclesfield (age 71) died. His son George (age 39) succeeded 4th Earl Macclesfield. Mary Frances Drake Countess Macclesfield by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 20th March 1842 George Parker 4th Earl Macclesfield (age 87) died. His brother Thomas (age 79) succeeded 5th Earl Macclesfield. Eliza Wolstenholme Countess Macclesfield (age 61) by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 31st March 1850 Thomas Parker 5th Earl Macclesfield (age 87) died. His son Thomas (age 39) succeeded 6th Earl Macclesfield.

Before 24th July 1896 Thomas Parker 6th Earl Macclesfield (age 85) and Mary Frances Grosvenor Countess Macclesfield (age 74) were married. She by marriage Countess Macclesfield. She the daughter of Richard Grosvenor 2nd Marquess Westminster and Elizabeth Mary Leveson-Gower Marchioness Westminster. He the son of Thomas Parker 5th Earl Macclesfield and Eliza Wolstenholme Countess Macclesfield.

On 24th July 1896 Thomas Parker 6th Earl Macclesfield (age 85) died. His grandson George (age 8) succeeded 7th Earl Macclesfield whic title he held for seventy-nine years.

In 1909 George Parker 7th Earl Macclesfield (age 20) and Lilian Joanna Vere Boyle Countess Macclesfield were married. She by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 20th September 1975 George Parker 7th Earl Macclesfield (age 87) died. His son George (age 61) succeeded 8th Earl Macclesfield. Valerie Mansfield Countess Macclesfield (age 56) by marriage Countess Macclesfield.

On 7th December 1992 George Parker 8th Earl Macclesfield (age 78) died. His son Richard (age 49) succeeded 9th Earl Macclesfield.
