On 26th October 1797 James Lowther 1st Earl Lonsdale (age 61) was created 1st Viscount Lowther. Mary Stuart Countess Lonsdale (age 56) by marriage Viscountess Lowther.

On 24th May 1802 James Lowther 1st Earl Lonsdale (age 65) died. His third cousin once removed William (age 44) succeeded 2nd Viscount Lowther, 2nd Baron Lowther. Augusta Fane Countess Lonsdale (age 40) by marriage Viscountess Lowther.

On 19th March 1844 William Lowther 1st Earl Lonsdale (age 86) died at York House Twickenham, Richmond. On 19th March 1844 His son William (age 56) succeeded 2nd Earl Lonsdale, 3rd Viscount Lowther, 3rd Baron Lowther.

On 4th March 1872 William Lowther 2nd Earl Lonsdale (age 84) died. His nephew Henry (age 53) succeeded 3rd Earl Lonsdale, 4th Viscount Lowther, 4th Baron Lowther.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 8th February 1882 George Henry Lowther 4th Earl Lonsdale (age 26) died at a house in London he had purchased for Connie Gilchrist (age 17) and other girls of the Gaiety Theatre. He bequeathed the house, and a sizeable legacy, to Gilchrist. His brother Hugh (age 25) succeeded 5th Earl Lonsdale, 6th Viscount Lowther, 6th Baron Lowther. Grace Cecilie Gordon Countess Lonsdale (age 27) by marriage Countess Lonsdale.

On 13th April 1944 Hugh Cecil Lowther 5th Earl Lonsdale (age 87) died. His brother Lancelot (age 76) succeeded 6th Earl Lonsdale, 7th Viscount Lowther, 7th Baron Lowther.

On 11th March 1953 Lancelot Edward Lowther 6th Earl Lonsdale (age 85) died. His grandson James (age 30) succeeded 7th Earl Lonsdale, 8th Viscount Lowther, 8th Baron Lowther.

On 23rd May 2006 James Lowther 7th Earl Londsdale (age 83) died. His son Hugh (age 56) succeeded 8th Earl Lonsdale, 9th Viscount Lowther, 9th Baron Lowther.

On 22nd June 2021 Hugh Lowther 8th Earl Lonsdale (age 72) died. His half brother William (age 63) succeeded 9th Earl Lonsdale, 10th Viscount Lowther, 10th Baron Lowther.
