The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 23rd January 1747 Pattee Byng 2nd Viscount Torrington (age 47) died. He was buried at Bing Vault, All Saints Church, Southill. His brother George (age 45) succeeded 3rd Viscount Torrington.

On 7th April 1750 George Byng 3rd Viscount Torrington (age 48) died. His son George (age 9) succeeded 4th Viscount Torrington. Lucy Boyle Viscountess Torrington by marriage Viscountess Torrington.

On 14th December 1812 George Byng 4th Viscount Torrington (age 72) died. His brother John (age 69) succeeded 5th Viscount Torrington. He enjoyed the Viscountcy for only twenty-four days dying on 08 Jan 1813. Further, the seat of the Viscountcy Southill Park, Bedfordshire had been sold to pay off debts. On 8th January 1813 John Byng 5th Viscount Torrington (age 69) died. His son George (age 45) succeeded 6th Viscount Torrington. Francis Harriet Barlow Viscountess Torrington (age 27) by marriage Viscountess Torrington.

On 1st September 1923 George Master Byng 9th Viscount Torrington (age 36) and Norah Elizabeth Wood-Pottle Viscountess Torrington were married. She by marriage Viscountess Torrington.

On 24th April 1944 George Master Byng 9th Viscount Torrington (age 57) died. He was buried at Buckfast Abbey, Devon [Map]. His first cousin Arthur (age 67) succeeded 10th Viscount Torrington.

On 28th November 1961 Arthur Stanley Byng 10th Viscount Torrington (age 85) died. His grandson Timothy (age 18) succeeded 11th Viscount Torrington.
