Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans
Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

On 24th April 1726 [his father] Christian August of Holstein Gottorp Prince Eutin [aged 53] died.
On 29th August 1744 Adolph Frederick King Sweden [aged 34] and Louisa Ulrika of Prussia Queen Consort of Sweden [aged 24] were married. She the daughter of Frederick William "Soldier King" I King Prussia and Sophia Dorothea Hanover Queen Consort Prussia [aged 57]. They were fourth cousin once removed. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland.
On 24th January 1746 [his son] Gustav III King Sweden was born to Adolph Frederick King Sweden [aged 35] and [his wife] Louisa Ulrika of Prussia Queen Consort of Sweden [aged 25]. He a great x 4 grandson of King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland. He married 1st October 1766 his second cousin Queen Sophia of Sweden, daughter of Frederick V King of Denmark and Norway and Louise Hanover Queen Consort Denmark and Norway, and had issue.
On 7th October 1748 [his son] Charles XIII King Sweden was born to Adolph Frederick King Sweden [aged 38] and [his wife] Louisa Ulrika of Prussia Queen Consort of Sweden [aged 28].. He a great x 4 grandson of King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland.
On 18th July 1750 [his son] Frederick Adolph Duke of Östergötland was born to Adolph Frederick King Sweden [aged 40] and [his wife] Louisa Ulrika of Prussia Queen Consort of Sweden [aged 30].. He a great x 4 grandson of King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland.
On 5th April 1751 Frederick I King Sweden [aged 74] died. His third cousin once removed Adolph [aged 40] succeeded King Sweden. He the first king of the House of Holstein-Gottorp.
On 1st October 1766 Gustav III King Sweden [aged 20] and Queen Sophia of Sweden [aged 20] were married. She the daughter of Frederick V King of Denmark and Norway and Louise Hanover Queen Consort Denmark and Norway. He the son of Adolph Frederick King Sweden [aged 56] and Louisa Ulrika of Prussia Queen Consort of Sweden [aged 46]. They were second cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland. She a granddaughter of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.
On 12th May 1771 Adolph Frederick King Sweden [aged 60] died in Stockholm apparently after having consumed a large meal, consisting of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, kippers and champagne, topped off with 14 servings of his favourite dessert: hetvägg, made of semla pastries served in bowls of hot milk.
[his son] Gustav III King Sweden [aged 25] succeeded King Sweden. [his daughter-in-law] Queen Sophia of Sweden [aged 24] by marriage Queen Sweden.
On 2nd July 1782 [his former wife] Louisa Ulrika of Prussia Queen Consort of Sweden [aged 62] died.
