Hayfield Walk 1 Phoside-Ollerset is in Hayfield Walks.
1½ hours. Some steep sections. Distance 2 miles.
I first did this walk on a sunny evening in early September. The first half of the walk, being east facing, was in shade. When, however, I reached the summit I was rewarded with a view of the whole of the west side of the Kinder Plateau, including the Downfall, bathed in sunshine. And looking east Manchester, the airport and Jodrell Bank, with the Welsh hills in the distance.
Route. Starting from the bridge [Map] in Hayfield, walk up Church Street, continuing into Highgate Road [Map], turning right at the track [Map] into a path that crosses Chapel Road [Map] an continues uphill through Highgate, Hayfield [Map], where the path crosses the River Pho, to Phoside, Hayfield [Map].
From Phoside go directly up either of the two paths that ascend the steep and slippery Foxholes Clough, Phoside [Map] which lead to Ollerset Moor [Map]. This is the summit of the walk at which there are wide ranging views.
Descend towards the TV Station Aerial [Map] at which the route turns right, down to Barnsfold Farm [Map] and thence down the lane to Ridge Top Farm [Map].
After Ridge Top Farm turn right at the cross-roads across a short section of field to a lane which takes you past Meadows Farm, Hayfield [Map] after which the track becomes a road which meet the New Mills Road at St John's Methodist Chapel [Map] across the road from the Kinder Lodge [Map].
Cross the road, walk down to the pedestrian crossing, cross the by-pass the ginnel takes you past the Italian restaurant Colosseo and the church and brings you back to the starting point [Map].
