The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 6th January 1338 James Butler 1st Earl Ormonde died. James Butler 2nd Earl Ormonde succeeded 2nd Earl Ormonde.

On 15th May 1346 James Butler 2nd Earl Ormonde and Elizabeth Darcy Countess Ormonde were married at Ormond, County Tipperary. She by marriage Countess Ormonde. She the daughter of John Darcy 1st Baron Darcy of Knayth and Joan Burgh Countess Kildare. He the son of James Butler 1st Earl Ormonde and Eleanor Bohun Countess Ormonde.

On 18th October 1382 James Butler 2nd Earl Ormonde died. James Butler 3rd Earl Ormonde succeeded 3rd Earl Ormonde.

Before 17th June 1386 James Butler 3rd Earl Ormonde and Anne Welles Countess Ormonde were married. She by marriage Countess Ormonde. He the son of James Butler 2nd Earl Ormonde and Elizabeth Darcy Countess Ormonde.

In 1399 James Butler 3rd Earl Ormonde and Katherine Fitzgerald Countess Ormonde were married. She by marriage Countess Ormonde. He the son of James Butler 2nd Earl Ormonde and Elizabeth Darcy Countess Ormonde.

On 7th September 1405 James Butler 3rd Earl Ormonde died. James "White Earl" Butler 4th Earl Ormonde succeeded 4th Earl Ormonde.

On 18th July 1432 James "White Earl" Butler 4th Earl Ormonde and Joan or Elizabeth Fitzgerald Countess Ormonde were married. She by marriage Countess Ormonde. She the daughter of Gerald Fitzgerald 5th Earl of Kildare and Margaret Rocheford Countess Kildare. He the son of James Butler 3rd Earl Ormonde and Anne Welles Countess Ormonde.

On 23rd August 1452 James "White Earl" Butler 4th Earl Ormonde died at Dublin. He was buried at St Mary's Abbey, Dublin. James Butler 1st Earl Wiltshire 5th Earl Ormonde succeeded 5th Earl Ormonde.

Battle of Towton

On 1st May 1461 James Butler 1st Earl Wiltshire 5th Earl Ormonde was beheaded at Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland having been captured at, or after, the Battle of Towton. John Butler 6th Earl Ormonde succeeded 6th Earl Ormonde. Earl Wiltshire forfeit.

On 14th December 1476 John Butler 6th Earl Ormonde died. Thomas Butler 7th Earl Ormonde succeeded 7th Earl Ormonde. Anne Hankford Countess Ormonde by marriage Countess Ormonde.

After 2nd January 1495 Thomas Butler 7th Earl Ormonde and Lora Berkeley Countess Ormonde were married. She by marriage Countess Ormonde. He the son of James "White Earl" Butler 4th Earl Ormonde and Joan Beauchamp Countess Ormonde.

On 3rd August 1515 Thomas Butler 7th Earl Ormonde died. Piers "Red" Butler 8th Earl Ormonde 1st Earl Ossory succeeded 8th Earl Ormonde. Margaret Fitzgerald Countess Ormonde and Ossory by marriage Countess Ormonde.

On 22nd February 1538 Piers "Red" Butler 8th Earl Ormonde 1st Earl Ossory was restored 8th Earl Ormonde. Margaret Fitzgerald Countess Ormonde and Ossory by marriage Countess Ormonde.
