The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. Originally penned in Latin by the monk William of Jumièges shortly before 1060 and later expanded at the behest of William the Conqueror, the work chronicles the deeds, politics, battles, and leadership of the Norman dukes, especially William’s own claim to the English throne. He the son of Arthur Hill 2nd Marquess Downshire and Mary Sandys Marchioness Downshire (age 46). They were half third cousins.
On 12th September 1845 Arthur Blundell Sandys Trumbull Hill 3rd Marquess Downshire (age 56) died. His son Arthur (age 33) succeeded 4th Marquess Downshire. Caroline Stapleton-Cotton Marchioness Downshire (age 30) by marriage Marchioness Downshire.
On 6th August 1868 Arthur Hill 4th Marquess Downshire (age 56) died. His son Arthur (age 23) succeeded 5th Marquess Downshire.
