Chronicle of a Bourgeois of Valenciennes
Récits d’un bourgeois de Valenciennes aka The Chronicle of a Bourgeois of Valenciennes is a vivid 14th-century vernacular chronicle written by an anonymous urban chronicler from Valenciennes in the County of Hainaut. It survives in a manuscript that describes local and regional history from about 1253 to 1366, blending chronology, narrative episodes, and eyewitness-style accounts of political, military, and social events in medieval France, Flanders, and the Low Countries. The work begins with a chronological framework of events affecting Valenciennes and its region under rulers such as King Philip VI of France and the shifting allegiances of local nobility. On 7th December 1805 [his father] Prince Frederick Oldenburg (age 52) died.
On 21st June 1806 King Christian I of Norway and VIII of Denmark (age 19) and Duchess Charlotte Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (age 21) were married. They were first cousins.
On 6th October 1808 [his son] Frederick VII King of Denmark was born to King Christian I of Norway and VIII of Denmark (age 22) and [his wife] Duchess Charlotte Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (age 23). Coefficient of inbreeding 6.77%.
In 1810 King Christian I of Norway and VIII of Denmark (age 23) and Duchess Charlotte Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (age 25) were divorced after her alleged affair with her singing teacher Édouard Du Puy. She was exiled; she never saw her one year old son again.
In 1814 King Christian I of Norway and VIII of Denmark (age 27) succeeded I King Norway.
In 1815 King Christian I of Norway and VIII of Denmark (age 28) and Caroline Amalie Oldenburg Queen Norway (age 18) were married. She by marriage Queen Consort Norway.
