On 30th December 1874 James Graham 4th Duke Montrose (age 75) died. His son Douglas (age 22) succeeded 5th Duke Montrose.
On 24th July 1876 Douglas Graham 5th Duke Montrose (age 23) and Violet Hermione Graham Duchess Montrose (age 21) were married. She by marriage Duchess Montrose. He the son of James Graham 4th Duke Montrose and Caroline Agnes Horsley Beresford "Mr Manton" Duchess Montrose (age 58). They were third cousin once removed.
On 10th December 1925 Douglas Graham 5th Duke Montrose (age 73) died. His son James (age 47) succeeded 6th Duke Montrose. Mary Louise Douglas Hamilton Duchess Montrose (age 41) by marriage Duchess Montrose.
