Biography of John Carew 3rd Baronet 1635-1692

1660 Convention Parliament

In December 1631 [his father] Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet (age 23) and [his mother] Jane Rolle Lady Carew were married at St Petroc's Church, Petrockstowe [Map]. She being his step-aunt, sister of his step-mother [his aunt] Grace Rolle Lady Rolle (age 38).

On 6th November 1635 John Carew 3rd Baronet was born to Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet (age 27) and Jane Rolle Lady Carew.

Execution of Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet

On 19th November 1644 [his father] Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet (age 36) was tried for treason, for attempting to betray the Parliamentary cause, by court-martial and convicted at Guildhall [Map].

On 23rd December 1644 Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet was beheaded at Tower Hill [Map]. He was buried at St Augustine's Church, Hackney. His son John (age 9) succeeded 3rd Baronet Carew of Antony in Cornwall.

Convention Parliament

In 1660 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 24) was elected MP Cornwall during the Convention Parliament.

In 1661 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 25) was elected MP Bodmin.

Before 8th August 1664 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 28) and Sarah Hungerford (age 23) were married.

On 9th November 1664 [his daughter] Rachel Carew was born to John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 29) and [his wife] Sarah Hungerford (age 23).

After 1671 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 35) and Elizabeth Norton (age 20) were married.

Before 28th March 1671 [his wife] Sarah Hungerford (age 29) died. She was buried at St James' Church, Antony [Map].

Sarah Hungerford: Before 30th March 1641 she was born to Anthony Hungerford and Rachel Jones. Before 8th August 1664 John Carew 3rd Baronet and she were married.

In 1679 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 43) was elected MP Lostwithiel.

On 25th April 1679 [his mother] Jane Rolle Lady Carew died; wife of [his father] Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet. She was buried at St James' Church, Antony [Map].

Jane Rolle Lady Carew: she was born to Robert Rolle of Heanton. In December 1631 Alexander Carew 2nd Baronet and she were married at St Petroc's Church, Petrockstowe [Map]. She being his step-aunt, sister of his step-mother Grace Rolle Lady Rolle. On 14th March 1643 Richard Carew 1st Baronet died. His son Alexander succeeded 2nd Baronet Carew of Antony in Cornwall. She by marriage Lady Carew of Antony in Cornwall.

On or before 14th August 1679, the day she was buried at St James' Church, Antony [Map], [his wife] Elizabeth Norton (age 28) died.

Elizabeth Norton: Before 22nd September 1650 she was born. After 1671 John Carew 3rd Baronet and she were married.

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 5th July 1681 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 45) and Mary Morice Lady Carew (age 10) were married. She by marriage Lady Carew of Antony in Cornwall. The difference in their ages was 35 years.

In 1682 [his daughter] Gertrude Carew Lady Coplestone Lady Copley Sprotborough was born to John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 46) and [his wife] Mary Morice Lady Carew (age 11).

In 1683 [his son] Richard Carew 4th Baronet was born to John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 47) and [his wife] Mary Morice Lady Carew (age 12).

In 1689 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 53) was elected MP Cornwall.

In 1690 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 54) was elected MP Saltash.

On or after 24th January 1690, the date he was baptised, [his son] William Carew 5th Baronet was born to John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 54) and [his wife] Mary Morice Lady Carew (age 19).

On 6th August 1692 John Carew 3rd Baronet (age 56) died. His son [his son] Richard (age 9) succeeded 4th Baronet Carew of Antony in Cornwall.

Around June 1698 [his former wife] Mary Morice Lady Carew (age 27) died.

After 1706. St James' Church, Antony [Map]. Memorial to John Carew 3rd Baronet, [his son] Richard Carew 4th Baronet and [his daughter] Rachel Carew (age 41).

Richard Carew 4th Baronet: In 1683 he was born to John Carew 3rd Baronet and Mary Morice Lady Carew. On 6th August 1692 John Carew 3rd Baronet died. His son Richard succeeded 4th Baronet Carew of Antony in Cornwall. On 24th September 1703 Richard Carew 4th Baronet died. His brother William succeeded 5th Baronet Carew of Antony in Cornwall.

Rachel Carew: On 9th November 1664 she was born to John Carew 3rd Baronet and Sarah Hungerford. On 21st February 1706 Rachel Carew died.
