Of these too we give a view, by which it will be seen that one of very large size is still erect, while another close to it is partially fallen down; the former offers a shelter of at least 12 ft. square to the farmer and a party of six or eight labourers, whenever they are overtaken in their work by a sudden shower; the cattle commonly take refuge under it, and it is surrounded by a great number of small stones, affording a strong presumption that here too there was once a carn.

A remarkable double cromlech at the south end of Llyn Llywean, in the grounds of the Marquis of Anglesey's house at Presaddfed. It is situated opposite the ninth milestone on the old road from Holyhead. In Gough's additions to Camden, Brit. vol. iii. p. 204, it is observed that the dimensions of the top-stone exceed those of the great cromlech at Plas Newydd; as in that example, its largest diameter points north and south. The late Rev. H. L. Jones has given a representation in Arch. Journ., vol. iii. p. 43, showing that one is of unusual dimensions, affording a shelter of at least 12 ft. square, and the cattle take refuge beneath. Close to it is the wreck of a second, that has fallen down. Angh. Llwyd, Hist. Angles., p. 243; List of British Remains, Mona, Arch. Cambr., third series, vol. i. p. 25. An appeal in behalf of its preservation, is given Arch. Cambr. fourth series, vol. ii. p. 283.

Archaeologia Cambrensis 1876 Correspondence. The Presaddfed Cromlech [Map].

Sir, Some hopes were expressed by some of the strangers on the occasion of the meeting of the Association last August in our county, that steps would be taken by permission of the owner to preserve from ruin what is decidedly one of the most interesting cromlechs in the county, and probably in all Wales. I do not know what has been done, but I sincerely trust that something is at least intended. Anyone can see that as soon as frost and rain have weakened the narrow point of the stone that supports the large mass forming the roof of the chamber, down must come, not only the said roof, but the upright stones also, which will probably be crushed and certainly capsized. Some effectual prop must be placed underneath it, but what that prop should be is doubtful. I am not competent to offer any opinion, but I believe some suggestion was made as to an iron prop. Certainly a wrought iron pillar, say three, or even two, inches in diameter, resting on a broad base of rock sunk in the ground would support any weight if properly placed. But, whatever may be the best plan, some plan or other is better than none.

Yours, etc., A Looker On.

Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion 1910. Not far from Llyn Llywenan at Presaddfed, in the parish of Bodedern, and over three quarters of a mile E.N.E. of the Church, there stands a fine dolmen [Presaddfed Burial Chambers [Map]], and a little further to the north, at the distance of a few feet, is to be seen a second one, in the latter case, however, the capstone has been dislodged and remains with one end resting on the ground.
