Biography of Edward Chamberlayne 1484-1543

Before 1478 [his father] Richard Chamberlayne of Shirburn (age 40) and [his mother] Sybilla Fowler (age 29) were married.

Around 1484 Edward Chamberlayne was born to Richard Chamberlayne of Shirburn (age 46) and Sybilla Fowler (age 35).

On 28 Aug 1496 [his father] Richard Chamberlayne of Shirburn (age 58) died.

Before 1504 Edward Chamberlayne (age 20) and Cecily Verney (age 18) were married.

Before 1504 [his son] Leonard Chamberlain was born to Edward Chamberlayne (age 19).

In 1509 Edward Chamberlayne (age 25) was appointed Esquire to the Body.

In Jul 1517 Edward Chamberlayne (age 33) served at a Royal Banquet at Greenwich, Kent [Map].

In 1529 Edward Chamberlayne (age 45) was elected MP Wallingford.

Before 1533 [his son] Leonard Chamberlain (age 29) and [his daughter-in-law] Dorothy Newdigate were married.

Death of Catherine of Aragon

Letters 1536. 07 Jan 1536. R. O. St. P. I. 452. 37. Sir Edward Chamberleyn (age 52) and Sir Edm. Bedyngfeld (age 57) to Cromwell (age 51).

This 7th Jan., about 10 a.m., the Lady Dowager (age 50) was annealed with the Holy ointment, Chamberleyn and Bedyngfeld being summoned, and before 2 p.m. she died. Wishes¹ to know the King's (age 44) pleasure concerning the house, servants, and other things. The groom of the Chamber here can cere her. Will send for a plumber to close the body in lead.

Note 1. The letter, though signed by two, is written throughout in the first person singular,— apparently by Bedingfield, who was steward of Catharine's household, though he signs second.
