Biography of Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham 1675-1749

In 1653 [his grandfather] Peter Temple 2nd Baronet (age 61) died. His son [his father] Richard Temple 3rd Baronet (age 18) succeeded 3rd Baronet Temple of Stowe.

Before 24 Oct 1675 [his father] Richard Temple 3rd Baronet (age 41) and [his mother] Mary Knapp Lady Temple were married. She by marriage Lady Temple of Stowe.

On 24 Oct 1675 Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham was born to Richard Temple 3rd Baronet (age 41) and Mary Knapp Lady Temple.

On 30 Jun 1685 Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham (age 9) was commissioned as an ensign in Prince George of Denmark's Regiment.

On 08 May 1697 [his father] Richard Temple 3rd Baronet (age 63) died. His son Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham (age 21) succeeded 4th Baronet Temple of Stowe.

On 01 Sep 1738 [his daughter] Elizabeth Temple was born to Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham (age 62) and [his wife] Anne Halsey Viscountess Cobham. She was baptised at St James' Church, Piccadilly on 28 Sep 1738.

On 10 Jul 1742 Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham (age 66) was promoted to Field Marshal.

On or before 16 Jul 1742 [his daughter] Elizabeth Temple (age 3) died. She was buried on 16 Jul 1742 at the family estate at Stowe, Buckinghamshire.

On 14 Sep 1749 Field Marshal Richard Temple 1st Viscount Cobham (age 73) died without surviving issue. His sister [his sister] Hester Temple 1st Countess Temple (age 59) succeeded 2nd Viscountess Cobham by special remainder. Baron Cobham extinct. His second cousin once removed William Temple 5th Baronet (age 55) succeeded 5th Baronet Temple of Stowe.
