The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Edward Sutton 4th Baron Dudley (age 46) and Mary Howard Baroness Dudley (age 23) were married. She by marriage Baroness Dudley. The difference in their ages was 23 years. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Edward Somerset 4th Earl of Worcester (age 21) and Elizabeth Hastings Countess of Worcester (age 25) were married. She by marriage Countess Worcester. She the daughter of Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon and Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon (age 60). He the son of William Somerset 3rd Earl of Worcester (age 45) and Christina North Countess of Worcester. They were third cousin once removed.

Before 27th December 1591 [his father] Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford (age 41) and [his mother] Elizabeth Trentham Maid of Honour Countess of Oxford were married. She by marriage Countess of Oxford. She brought her husband a dowry of £1000 bequeathed to her in her father's will, payable at the rate of 500 marks a year for three years. He the son of [his grandfather] John de Vere 16th Earl of Oxford and [his grandmother] Margery Golding Countess of Oxford.

On 24th February 1593 Henry de Vere 18th Earl of Oxford was born to [his father] Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford (age 42) and [his mother] Elizabeth Trentham Maid of Honour Countess of Oxford.

On 26th January 1595 [his brother-in-law] William Stanley 6th Earl of Derby (age 34) and [his half-sister] Elizabeth Vere Countess Derby (age 19) were married. She by marriage Countess Derby. She the daughter of [his father] Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford (age 44) and Anne Cecil Countess of Oxford. He the son of Henry Stanley 4th Earl of Derby and Margaret Clifford Countess Derby (age 55). They were fifth cousins. He a great x 2 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 28th April 1599 [his brother-in-law] Francis Norreys 1st Earl Berkshire (age 19) and [his half-sister] Bridget Vere Baroness Norreys Rycote (age 15) were married. She the daughter of [his father] Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford (age 49) and Anne Cecil Countess of Oxford. He the son of William Norreys and Elizabeth Morrison Countess Lincoln. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 27th June 1601 Henry Norreys 1st Baron Norreys of Rycote (age 76) died at Rycote, Oxfordshire [Map]. His grandson [his brother-in-law] Francis (age 21) succeeded 2nd Baron Norreys of Rycote. [his half-sister] Bridget Vere Baroness Norreys Rycote (age 17) by marriage Baroness Norreys of Rycote.

On 24th June 1604 [his father] Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford (age 54) died at his home in King Street Covent Garden. His son Henry (age 11) succeeded 18th Earl of Oxford.

Marriage of Philip Herbert and Susan Howard

In 1605 [his future brother-in-law] Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery (age 20) was created 1st Earl Montgomery. [his half-sister] Susan Vere Countess Montgomery (age 17) by marriage Countess Montgomery.

On 27th December 1605 [his brother-in-law] Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery (age 21) and [his half-sister] Susan Vere Countess Montgomery (age 18) were married at Whitehall. The bride was escorted into the church by the Queen's (age 31) brother Prince Ulrik Oldenburg (age 26) and her son Henry Frederick Stewart Prince of Wales (age 11). She the daughter of [his father] Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford and Anne Cecil Countess of Oxford. He the son of Henry Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke and Mary Sidney Countess Pembroke (age 44).

In 1609 [his mother] Elizabeth Trentham Maid of Honour Countess of Oxford purchased Hedingham Castle [Map] from her late husband's three daughters by his first wife so that Hedingham Castle [Map] remained in the estate of her son Henry de Vere 18th Earl of Oxford (age 15).

In 1612 [his half-sister] Elizabeth Vere Countess Derby (age 36) was created Lord Mann.

Around December 1612 [his mother] Elizabeth Trentham Maid of Honour Countess of Oxford died.

On 28th January 1621 [his brother-in-law] Francis Norreys 1st Earl Berkshire (age 41) was created 1st Earl Berkshire, 1st Viscount Thame. [his half-sister] Bridget Vere Baroness Norreys Rycote (age 36) by marriage Countess Berkshire.

On 1st January 1624 Henry de Vere 18th Earl of Oxford (age 30) and Diana Cecil Countess of Oxford and Elgin (age 28) were married. She by marriage Countess of Oxford. She the daughter of William Cecil 2nd Earl Exeter (age 58) and Elizabeth Drury Countess Exeter (age 45). He the son of Edward de Vere 17th Earl of Oxford and Elizabeth Trentham Maid of Honour Countess of Oxford. They were fifth cousin once removed.

In June 1625 Henry de Vere 18th Earl of Oxford (age 32) died. His second cousin Robert (age 49) succeeded 19th Earl of Oxford.

On 12th November 1629 Thomas Bruce 1st Earl Elgin (age 30) and [his former wife] Diana Cecil Countess of Oxford and Elgin (age 33) were married. She the daughter of [his former father-in-law] William Cecil 2nd Earl Exeter (age 63) and [his former mother-in-law] Elizabeth Drury Countess Exeter (age 51).
