In 1669 [his grandfather] John Harpur 2nd Baronet (age 53) died. His son [his father] John Harpur 3rd Baronet (age 24) succeeded 3rd Baronet Harpur of Calke Abbey in Derbyshire.
In or before 1676 Rowland Alston 2nd Baronet (age 22) and [his future sister-in-law] Temperance Crew (age 19) were married.
In or before 1679 [his father] John Harpur 3rd Baronet (age 34) and [his mother] Anne Willoughby Lady Harpur (age 19) were married.
Around 1679 John Harpur 4th Baronet was born to John Harpur 3rd Baronet (age 34) and Anne Willoughby Lady Harpur (age 20).

His son Reverend Thomas Bate (1675-1727) was Vicar of Swarkestone and Chaplain to Sir John Harpur of Calke Abbey (probably [his father] John Harpur 3rd Baronet or John Harpur 4th Baronet (age 28)). Father and son collected thoelogical books called the Ashby Parish Library - now in the care of Nottingham University.

Before 22 Jun 1740 [his son-in-law] Henry Gough 1st Baronet (age 32) and [his daughter] Catherine Harpur Lady Gough were married. Catherine Harpur Lady Gough by marriage Lady Gough-Calthorpe of Edgbaston in Warwickshire.
On 22 Jun 1740 [his daughter] Catherine Harpur Lady Gough died.
