On 14 May 1602 [his father] Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 16) and [his mother] Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 21) were married. She the daughter of Thomas Darcy 1st Earl Rivers (age 37) and Mary Kitson Countess Rivers (age 35).

On 25 Feb 1603 John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers was born to Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 17) and Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 22).

On 11 Mar 1603 John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers was christened at St Botolph's without Bishopgate.

In 1613 [his father] Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 27) was created 1st Baron Darcy of Chiche. He the son-in-law of the last Baron of the 1513 creation [his grandfather] Thomas Darcy 1st Earl Rivers (age 48).

On 14 Jul 1615 [his grandfather] John Savage 1st Baronet (age 65) died. His son [his father] Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 29) succeeded 2nd Baronet Savage of Rocksavage in Cheshire. [his mother] Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 34) by marriage Lady Savage of Rocksavage in Cheshire.

On 05 Jul 1621 [his grandfather] Thomas Darcy 1st Earl Rivers (age 56) was created 1st Viscount Colchester with a special remainder to his grandson John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 18).. [his grandmother] Mary Kitson Countess Rivers (age 54) by marriage Viscountess Colchester

Before 1626 John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 22) and Catherine Parker (age 28) were married. He the son of Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 39) and Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 44).

Around 1626 [his daughter] Jane Savage Baroness Chandos was born to John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 22) and [his wife] Catherine Parker (age 29).

On 04 Nov 1626 [his grandfather] Thomas Darcy 1st Earl Rivers (age 61) was created 1st Earl Rivers with a special remainder to his grandson John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 23). [his grandmother] Mary Kitson Countess Rivers (age 59) by marriage Countess Rivers.

On 04 Nov 1626 [his father] Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 40) was created 1st Viscount Savage. [his mother] Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 45) by marriage Viscountess Savage.

Around 1628 [his son] Thomas Savage 3rd Earl Rivers was born to John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 24) and [his wife] Catherine Parker (age 31).

On 20 Nov 1635 [his father] Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage (age 49) died. His son John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 32) succeeded 2nd Viscount Savage, 2nd Baron Darcy of Chiche, 3rd Baronet Savage of Rocksavage in Cheshire.

On 25 Feb 1640 [his grandfather] Thomas Darcy 1st Earl Rivers (age 75) died at Winchester House Broad Street. His grandson John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 37) succeeded 2nd Earl Rivers, 2nd Viscount Colchester. Baron Darcy of Chiche extinct.

In 1641 [his mother] Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 60) was created 1st Earl Rivers for life by King Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland (age 40) since she had been passed over when her father's Earldom Earl Rivers passed from her father to her eldest son John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 37).

In 1645 [his wife] Catherine Parker (age 48) died.

In 1647 [his son] Thomas Savage 3rd Earl Rivers (age 19) and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Scrope Countess Rivers (age 20) were married. She the illegitmate daughter of Emanuel Scrope 1st Earl of Sunderland and Martha Jeanes. He the son of John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 43) and Catherine Parker.

Before 06 Mar 1647 John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 44) and Mary Ogle Countess Rivers were married. She by marriage Countess Rivers. He the son of Thomas Savage 1st Viscount Savage and Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 66).

On 09 Mar 1650 [his mother] Elizabeth Darcy 1st Countess Rivers (age 69) died. Earl Rivers extinct since it was a created for life only .

On 10 Oct 1654 John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (age 51) died at Frodsham Castle [Map]. His son [his son] Thomas Savage 3rd Earl Rivers (age 26) succeeded 3rd Earl Rivers, 3rd Viscount Colchester, 3rd Viscount Savage, 3rd Baron Darcy of Chiche, 4th Baronet Savage of Rocksavage in Cheshire. [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Scrope Countess Rivers (age 27) by marriage Countess Rivers.

On 12 Oct 1654 John Savage 2nd Earl Rivers (deceased) was buried at Macclesfield [Map].

Before 25 Jan 1658 [his former wife] Mary Ogle Countess Rivers died.

Pepy's Diary. 03 Apr 1664. Lord's Day. Being weary last night lay long, and called up by W. Joyce. So I rose, and his business was to ask advice of me, he being summonsed to the House of Lords to-morrow, for endeavouring to arrest my [his daughter] Lady Peters¹ for a debt. I did give him advice, and will assist him. He staid all the morning, but would not dine with me.

Note 1. Elizabeth, daughter of John Savage, second Earl Rivers, and first wife to William, fourth Lord Petre (age 38), who was, in 1678, impeached by the Commons of high treason, and died under confinement in the Tower, January 5th, 1683, s. p. B.
