Biography of Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey 1693-1761

Paternal Family Tree: Annesly

Before 1689 [his father] Richard Annesley 3rd Baron Altham (age 34) and [his mother] Dorothy Davey Baroness Altham (age 25) were married. He the son of Arthur Annesley 1st Earl Annesley and Elizabeth Altham Countess Anglesey (age 68).

Around 1693 Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey was born to Richard Annesley 3rd Baron Altham (age 38) and Dorothy Davey Baroness Altham (age 29).

In 1701 James Annesley 2nd Baron Altham died. His uncle [his father] Richard Annesley 3rd Baron Altham (age 46) succeeded 3rd Baron Altham. [his mother] Dorothy Davey Baroness Altham (age 37) by marriage Baroness Altham.

On 19 Nov 1701 [his father] Richard Annesley 3rd Baron Altham (age 46) died. His son [his brother] Arthur Annesley 4th Baron Altham (age 12) succeeded 4th Baron Altham.

Around 1715 [his mother] Dorothy Davey Baroness Altham (age 51) died.

On 16 Nov 1727 [his brother] Arthur Annesley 4th Baron Altham (age 38) died. His brother Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 34) succeeded 5th Baron Altham.

After his father died on 16 Nov 1727 his uncle Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 34) arranged for [his brother] Arthur Annesley 4th Baron Altham (deceased) to be kidnapped so that he wouldn't inherit his father's titles or estates. In 1737 he would also have inherited the estates of his cousin Arthur Annesley 5th Earl Anglesey (age 47). He was shipped to a plantation in Delaware and sold into indentured servitude.

On 01 Apr 1737 Arthur Annesley 5th Earl Anglesey (age 57) died. His first cousin Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 44) succeeded 6th Earl Anglesey, 7th Viscount Valentia, 6th Baron Annesley Newport Pagnell Buckinghamshire.

In 1741 James Annesley (age 25) returned to England. Shortly thereafter durign a hunting trip in Scotland he accidentally shot a man. His uncle Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 48) attempted to have him hanged for murder.

In Sep 1741 Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 48) and Juliana Donovan Countess Anglesey were married in secret. The secrecy led to issues with his son Arthur's succession as Earl Anglesey.

On 07 Aug 1744 [his son] Arthur Annesley 1st Earl Mountnorris was born to Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 51) and [his wife] Juliana Donovan Countess Anglesey.

1745 Annesley vs Lord Anglesey Case

In 1745 Thomas Marlay (age 65) presided over the 1745 Annesley vs Lord Anglesey Case case in which James Annesley (age 29) sought to claim his inheritance as 6th Earl Anglesey from his uncle Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 52) who had previously had him kidnapped to avoid his receiving his inheritance. The case went in favour of James Annesley (age 29) but he died before receiving his estates. His uncle died a year later.

In 1752 Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 59) and [his wife] Juliana Donovan Countess Anglesey were married. They had married in secret before. Juliana Donovan Countess Anglesey by marriage Countess Anglesey.

On 14 Feb 1761 Richard Annesley 6th Earl Anglesey (age 68) died. Earl Anglesey and Baron Annesley Newport Pagnell Buckinghamshire extinct. His son [his son] Arthur Annesley 1st Earl Mountnorris (age 16) succeeded 8th Viscount Valentia, 6th Baron Altham.

Arthur Annesley 1st Earl Mountnorris (age 16) didn't succeed as 7th Earl Anglesey since his parent's secret marriage in September 1741 was not supported by sufficient evidence for the English House of Lords to accept his legitimacy. He was subsequently created Earl Mountnorris of Mountnorris Castle in Armagh more or less in compensation.

He succeeded to the Irish titles Viscount Valentia and Baron Altham since the Irish House of Lords did believe his legitimacy.

On 26 Sep 1777 [his former wife] Juliana Donovan Countess Anglesey died.
