On 27 Jun 1724 [his father] Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough (age 33) and [his mother] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough were married. She the daughter of George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney (age 58) and Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney (age 67). He the son of Richard Lumley 1st Earl Scarborough and Frances Jones Countess Scarborough. They were fourth cousins.

In May 1725 Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough was born to Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough (age 34) and Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough.

On 29 Jan 1740 [his uncle] Richard Lumley 2nd Earl Scarborough (age 53) committed suicide by shooting himself through the roof of the mouth possibly as a result of his having told the Dowager Duchess of Manchester (age 34), who he had intended to marry the following day, a state secret which she then shared with her grandmother Sarah Jennings Duchess Marlborough (age 79) who shared it with William Pulteney 1st Earl Bath (age 55) who shared it with everyone else. On 29 Jan 1740 His brother [his father] Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough (age 49) succeeded 3rd Earl Scarborough, 4th Viscount Lumley. [his mother] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough by marriage Countess Scarborough. He left his estates to his youngest brother [his uncle] James Lumley (age 34).

On 16 Sep 1743 George Savile 7th Baronet (age 65) died. His son [his future brother-in-law] George Savile 8th Baronet (age 17) succeeded 8th Baronet Savile of Thornhill.

On 15 Mar 1752 [his father] Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough (age 61) died. His son Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough (age 26) succeeded 4th Earl Scarborough, 5th Viscount Lumley.
