Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

16th January 1542. This yeare, the 16th daye of Januarye, 1541 [1542], beganne the Parliament at Westminster, and that daye was masse of the Holy Ghost, the Kinge rydinge from his pallace at Westminster in his Parliament robes, with all his lordes spirituall and temporall in theyr robes, and so rode to the church of St. Petersc; and that daye the Kinge made knightes in the Parliament Chamber, Mr. Robert Southwell, Mr of the Rolles, and Mr. Pollard (age 37), the King's Rememberancer.

20th January 1542. And the 20 of January the Convocation beganne at Pawles.
23rd January 1542. This yeare, the 23 day of January, was the Kinge proclaymed Kinge of Ireland by the assent of the Parliament, both of this realme and allso of Ireland.
2nd February 1542. This yeare, on Candlemas daye, my lord mayor [Michael Dormer] was presented to the Kinge at his Pallace of Westminster, and there made knight, and Sir William Denham, alderman, allso.
9th February 1542. This yeare, the 9th of Februarye, a preist, beinge parson in the Towre of London, hanged himselfe with one of his garters.
9th February 1542. And the same night the Lady Rochford (age 37) was had to the Tower.
10th February 1542. The 10th of February the Quene (age 19) was had by water from Sion to the Tower of London, the Duke of Suffolke (age 58), the Lord Privie Seale, and the Lord Great Chamberlaine (age 59) havinge the conveyannce of her.
13th February 1542. And the 13th of February, beinge Monday, the sayd Quene, Katharine (age 19) put otherwise Lady Haward, was beheaded within the Tower on the grene, and my Lady of Rochforde (age 37) allso; the Lordes of the Counsell, with other noblemen, and certeine commoners, beinge there present at the execution, she beinge afore condempned by the body of the whole Parliament of high treason.
