The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

On 9th March 1492 [his son] John Brydges 1st Baron Chandos was born to Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos [aged 30] and [his wife] Isabel Baynham Baroness Chandos [aged 17] at Coberley, Gloucestershire. He married 1512 Elizabeth Grey Baroness Chandos, daughter of Edmund Grey 9th Baron Grey of Wilton and Florence Hastings Baroness Grey Wilton, and had issue.
On 30th January 1493 [his father] Thomas Brugge 5th Baron Chandos [aged 66] died. His son Giles [aged 31] succeeded 6th Baron Chandos. [his wife] Isabel Baynham Baroness Chandos [aged 18] by marriage Baroness Chandos.
In 1496 [his son] Thomas Brydges was born to Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos [aged 34] and [his wife] Isabel Baynham Baroness Chandos [aged 21] at Sudeley, Winchcombe. He married before 1537 Joan or Anne Sydenham and had issue.
Around 1497 [his daughter] Catherine Brydges was born to Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos [aged 35] and [his wife] Isabel Baynham Baroness Chandos [aged 22]. She married (1) Leonard Poole and had issue (2) after 1538 David Brooke.
On 17th June 1497 the Cornish rebel army was destroyed at the Battle of Blackheath aka Deptford Bridge.
Richard Guildford [aged 47] was created Knight Banneret.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

In 1499 Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos [aged 37] was appointed High Sheriff of Gloucester.
Around 1500 [his daughter] Ursula Brydges was born to Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos [aged 38] and [his wife] Isabel Baynham Baroness Chandos [aged 25]. She married John Sydenham of Brympton d'Evercy and had issue.
Around 1506 [his mother] Florence Darrell Baroness Chandos [aged 81] died.
Around 1511 [his wife] Isabel Baynham Baroness Chandos [aged 36] died.
On 1st December 1511 Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos [aged 49] died. Baron Chandos extinct. Baron Chandos of the first creation was subject to some confusion with the send and third barons not being summoned to Parliament. The Barony was, hoever, called out of abeyance for the 4th Baron in 1458. Gile's son John was created Baron Chandos of the second creation in 1554 so the first, if it existed, is assumed to have become extinct.
