The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 30 Jan 1894 William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley was born to William Humble Ward 2nd Earl of Dudley (age 26).
On 08 Mar 1919 William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley (age 25) and Rosemary Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (age 25) were married. She the daughter of Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower 4th Duke of Sutherland 1851-1913 and Millicent Fanny St Clair-Erskine Duchess of Sutherland (age 51). He the son of William Humble Ward 2nd Earl of Dudley (age 51).
On 05 Jan 1920 [his son] was born to William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley (age 25) and [his wife] Rosemary Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (age 26).
Before 30 Mar 1921 [his brother-in-law] Alastair Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (age 31) and Elizabeth Demarest (age 28) were married. He the son of Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower 4th Duke of Sutherland 1851-1913 and Millicent Fanny St Clair-Erskine Duchess of Sutherland (age 53).
On 28 Apr 1921 [his brother-in-law] Alastair Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (age 31) died of malaria while taking part in a big game expedition in Rhodesia.
On 30 Apr 1924 [his father] William Humble Ward 2nd Earl of Dudley (age 56) and [his step-mother] Gertrude "Gertie" Millar Countess of Dudley (age 45) were married. She by marriage Countess of Dudley of Dudley Castle in Staffordshire. He the son of William Ward 1st Earl of Dudley and Georgina Moncrieffe Countess Dudley (age 77).
In 1926 [his son] Peter Alistair Ward was born to William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley (age 31) and [his wife] Rosemary Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (age 32).
On 21 Jul 1930 [his wife] Rosemary Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (age 36) died in a plane crash. She was booked on a flight from Le Touquet to Croydon. A seat became available on an earlier flight which she accepted. The flight departed in clear weather. At about at 2:30 pm in poor weather over Kent the tail unit failed, causing the aircraft to stall, which in turn caused the port wing to break away and the plane to crash. All the passengers fell from the aircraft through the hole created by the wing breaking away. The Viscountess' body was found in a meadow. An inquest was opened on 23 July where the Viscountess was identified by her brother, George. After the formal identifications, the inquest was adjourned for the Air Ministry technical investigation to take place. The inquest was resumed on 13 August at which the jury returned a verdict "that the victims met their death falling from an aeroplane, the cause of the accident being unknown".
On 29 Jun 1932 [his father] William Humble Ward 2nd Earl of Dudley (age 65) died. His son William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley (age 38) succeeded 3rd Earl of Dudley of Dudley Castle in Staffordshire, 13th Baron Ward of Birmingham.
On 14 Nov 1933 Walter Francis David Long (age 22) and [his future wife] Frances Laura Charteris Duchess of Marlborough (age 18) were married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map].
On 23 Feb 1943 William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley (age 49) and Frances Laura Charteris Duchess of Marlborough (age 27) were married. She by marriage Countess of Dudley of Dudley Castle in Staffordshire. The difference in their ages was 21 years. He the son of William Humble Ward 2nd Earl of Dudley.
On 21 Nov 1956 [his son] Peter Alistair Ward (age 30) and [his daughter-in-law] Claire Leonora Baring (age 20) were married. They two daughters and a son. He the son of William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley 1894-1969 (age 62) and Rosemary Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower.
On 13 Jun 1960 Michael Temple Canfield (age 33) and [his wife] Frances Laura Charteris Duchess of Marlborough (age 44) were married. He the son of Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent and Alice "Kiki" Preston aka Gwynne. He a grandson of George V King United Kingdom.
On 26 Dec 1969 William Humble Eric Ward 3rd Earl of Dudley (age 75) died. His son [his son] (age 49) succeeded 4th Earl of Dudley of Dudley Castle in Staffordshire, 14th Baron Ward of Birmingham.
On 26 Jan 1972 John Albert William Spencer-Churchill 10th Duke of Marlborough (age 74) and [his former wife] Frances Laura Charteris Duchess of Marlborough (age 56) were married. She by marriage Duchess Marlborough. He the son of Charles Richard John Spencer-Churchill 9th Duke of Marlborough and Consuelo Vanderbilt Duchess of Marlborough.
On 19 Feb 1990 [his former wife] Frances Laura Charteris Duchess of Marlborough (age 74) died at Portland Towers Marylebone.
