The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 19th July 1788 William Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 4th Earl Mornington was baptised at St George's Church, Hanover Square.
On 14th September 1805 James Long aka Tylney-Long 8th Baronet (age 11) died. Baronet Long of Westminster in London extinct. His sister [his future wife] Catherine "The Wiltshire Heiress" Tylney Long (age 16) inherited his estates giving her the soubriquet "The Wiltshire Heiress".
On 26th June 1811 [his brother-in-law] John Fane 11th Earl of Westmoreland (age 27) and [his sister] Priscilla Anne Wellesley-Pole Countess of Westmoreland (age 18) were married. She the daughter of [his father] William Wellesley aka Wellesley-Pole 3rd Earl Mornington (age 48) and [his mother] Katherine Forbes Countess Mornington (age 50). He the son of John Fane 10th Earl of Westmoreland (age 52) and Sarah Anne Child Countess of Westmoreland.
In 1812 William Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 4th Earl Mornington (age 23) was elected MP St Ives.
On 14th March 1812 William Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 4th Earl Mornington (age 23) and Catherine "The Wiltshire Heiress" Tylney Long (age 23) were married. He the son of William Wellesley aka Wellesley-Pole 3rd Earl Mornington (age 48) and Katherine Forbes Countess Mornington (age 51). They were half sixth cousins.
On 7th October 1813 [his son] William Richard Arthur Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 5th Earl Mornington was born to William Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 4th Earl Mornington (age 25) and [his wife] Catherine "The Wiltshire Heiress" Tylney Long (age 24) at Wansted House, Essex.
On 6th August 1814 [his brother-in-law] Fitzroy James Henry Somerset 1st Baron Raglan (age 25) and [his sister] Emily Harriet Wellesley-Pole Baroness Raglan (age 22) were married. She the daughter of [his father] William Wellesley aka Wellesley-Pole 3rd Earl Mornington (age 51) and [his mother] Katherine Forbes Countess Mornington (age 53). He the son of Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort (age 67). They were fifth cousins.
In 1818 William Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 4th Earl Mornington (age 29) was elected MP Wiltshire.

His brother [his father] William (age 79) succeeded 3rd Earl Mornington, 3rd Viscount Wellesley of Dangan Castle. [his mother] Katherine Forbes Countess Mornington (age 81) by marriage Countess Mornington.
On 22nd February 1845 [his father] William Wellesley aka Wellesley-Pole 3rd Earl Mornington (age 81) died. His son William (age 56) succeeded 4th Earl Mornington, 4th Viscount Wellesley of Dangan Castle. [his wife] Helena Paterson Bligh Countess Mornington by marriage Countess Mornington.
In 1852 [his brother-in-law] Fitzroy James Henry Somerset 1st Baron Raglan (age 63) was created 1st Baron Raglan. [his sister] Emily Harriet Wellesley-Pole Baroness Raglan (age 60) by marriage Baroness Raglan.
On 1st July 1857 William Pole Tylney Long Wellesley 4th Earl Mornington (age 69) died at Thayer Street Manchester Square Marylebone. He was buried at Catacomb B Kensal Green Cemetery. His son William (age 43) succeeded 5th Earl Mornington, 5th Viscount Wellesley of Dangan Castle.
