The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Richard Willoughby: he was born to Hugh Willoughby and Isabel Foljambe. In or before 1468 Richard Willoughby and Anna Leeke were married.

Anna Leeke: Around 1425 she was born to Simon Leeke in Cotham Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. Around 1468 Anna Leeke died in Wollaton, Nottinghamshire. She was buried at St Leonard's Church, Wollaton [Map].

In 1528 Henry Willoughby (age 77) was buried at St Leonard's Church, Wollaton [Map]. A fine chest tomb monument in sandstone (rather than alabaster), somewhat damaged, with his four wives, two each side.Lancastrian Esses Collar somehwat unusual given the 1528 date of his death. Sphinx Crest. Cadaver Underneath. Henry Willoughby's Arms including Willoughby top left hand corner (Water Bougets from Willoughy family original name Bugge). Lancastrian Esses and Inter-twined Knots Collar.

Henry Willoughby: In 1517 he was born to Edward Willoughby and Anne Filiol at Wollaton, Nottinghamshire. Before 1540 Henry Willoughby and Anne Grey were married. She the daughter of Thomas Grey 2nd Marquess Dorset and Margaret Wotton Marchioness Dorset. On 27th August 1549 the rebels were defeated by an army led by John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland. Henry Willoughby was killed at Mousehold Heath, Norwich [Map].

In January 1609 John Gell 1st Baronet (age 15) and Elizabeth Willoughby Lady Gell were married at St Leonard's Church, Wollaton [Map].

Before 4th August 1799. Monument to Francis Willoughby 3rd Baron Middleton, Thomas Willoughby 4th Baron Middleton, Henry Willoughby 5th Baron Middleton (age 72) and Dorothy Cartright Baroness Middleton in St Leonard's Church, Wollaton [Map] sculpted by John "The Elder" Bacon (age 58). The names of Henry Willoughby 5th Baron Middleton and Dorothy Cartright Baroness Middleton were either added later, or the monument completed by the workshop of John "The Elder" Bacon after his death on 4th August 1799.

Dorothy Cartright Baroness Middleton: In 1756 Henry Willoughby 5th Baron Middleton and she were married. On 2nd November 1781 Thomas Willoughby 4th Baron Middleton died. His first cousin Henry succeeded 5th Baron Middleton, 6th Baronet Willoughby of Wollaton. She by marriage Baroness Middleton. On 18th September 1808 she died.

After 19th June 1835. Monument to Henry Willoughby 6th Baron Middleton (deceased) and Jane Lawley in St Leonard's Church, Wollaton [Map] sculpted by Richard Westmacott (age 59).

Henry Willoughby 6th Baron Middleton: On 24th April 1761 he was born to Henry Willoughby 5th Baron Middleton and Dorothy Cartright Baroness Middleton. Before 11th March 1793 Henry Willoughby 6th Baron Middleton and Jane Lawley were married. On 14th June 1800 Henry Willoughby 5th Baron Middleton died. His son Henry succeeded 6th Baron Middleton, 7th Baronet Willoughby of Wollaton. On 19th June 1835 Henry Willoughby 6th Baron Middleton died. His first cousin Digby succeeded 7th Baron Middleton, 8th Baronet Willoughby of Wollaton.

Jane Lawley: Around 1767 she was born to Robert Lawley 5th Baronet and Jane Thompson. 11th March 1793 Jane Lawley died.

Hugh Willoughby was appointed Rector at St Leonard's Church, Wollaton [Map].
