The Queen has been pleased to direct letters patent to be passed under the Great Seal, granting the dignities of Baron and Earl of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland unto the Right Honourable George Lord Auckland (age 55), G. C. B. and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, by the names, styles, and titles of Baron Eden, of Norwood, in the county of Surrey, and Earl of Auckland.

The Queen has also been pleased to direct letters patent to be passed under the Great Seal, granting the dignity of' a Baron of the United Kingdom, of Great Britain and Ireland unto Lieutenant-General Sir John 'Keane (age 58), GCB. and the heirs male of his body, lawfully begotten, by the name, style, and title of Baron Keane, of Ghuznee, in Afghanistan, and of Cappoquin, hi the county of Waterford.

On 1st January 1849 George Eden 1st Earl Auckland (age 64) died unmarried. Earl of Auckland and Baron Eden of Norwood in Surrey extinct. His brother Robert (age 49) succeeded 3rd Baron Auckland of West Auckland.
