The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 21st February 1865 Stapleton Cotton 1st Viscount Combermere (age 91) died. His son Wellington (age 46) succeeded 2nd Viscount Combermere, 2nd Baron Combermere, 7th Baronet Cotton of Combermere in Cheshire.

Wellington Stapleton-Cotton 2nd Viscount Combermere: On 24th November 1818 he was born to Stapleton Cotton 1st Viscount Combermere and Caroline Greville Viscountess Comberemere at Duncombe House, St Thomas. In 1844 Wellington Stapleton-Cotton 2nd Viscount Combermere and Susan Alice Sitwell were married. On 1st December 1891 Wellington Stapleton-Cotton 2nd Viscount Combermere died. His son Robert succeeded 3rd Viscount Combermere, 3rd Baron Combermere, 8th Baronet Cotton of Combermere in Cheshire. Isabel Marion Chetwynd Viscountess Combermere by marriage Viscountess Combermere.
On 1st December 1891 Wellington Stapleton-Cotton 2nd Viscount Combermere (age 73) died. His son Robert (age 46) succeeded 3rd Viscount Combermere, 3rd Baron Combermere, 8th Baronet Cotton of Combermere in Cheshire. Isabel Marion Chetwynd Viscountess Combermere by marriage Viscountess Combermere.
In 1898 Robert Wellington Stapleton-Cotton 3rd Viscount Combermere (age 53) died. His son Francis (age 10) succeeded 4th Viscount Combermere, 4th Baron Combermere, 9th Baronet Cotton of Combermere in Cheshire. Louisa Agnew (age 6) by marriage Viscountess Combermere.
On 8th February 1969 Francis Stapleton-Cotton 4th Viscount Combermere (age 81) died. His son Michael (age 39) succeeded 5th Viscount Combermere, 5th Baron Combermere, 10th Baronet Cotton of Combermere in Cheshire.
On 3rd November 2000 Michael Wellington Stapleton-Cotton 5th Viscount Combermere (age 71) died. His son Thomas (age 31) succeeded 6th Viscount Combermere, 6th Baron Combermere, 11th Baronet Cotton of Combermere in Cheshire.
