Biography of John Valois 1st Duke Berry 1340-1416

On 30th November 1340 John Valois 1st Duke Berry was born to King John "The Good" II of France (age 21) and Bonne Luxemburg Queen Consort France (age 25) at Château de Vincennes.

On 19th February 1350 [his father] King John "The Good" II of France (age 30) and [his step-mother] Joan Auvergne Queen Consort France (age 23) were married. She by marriage Queen Consort of France. On 23rd October 1378 [his sister-in-law] Martha Armagnac Queen Consort Aragon (age 31) died.

In 1381 Joanna of Navarre Queen Consort England (age 11) was held hostage with her two brothers Charles III King Navarre (age 20) and Peter Évreux Count Mortain by [his brother] King Charles V of France to ensure their father's (age 48) good behaviour. They were held under the guardianship of their maternal uncles John Valois 1st Duke Berry (age 40) and [his brother] Philip "Bold" Valois II Duke Burgundy (age 38).
