The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy
The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. Originally penned in Latin by the monk William of Jumièges shortly before 1060 and later expanded at the behest of William the Conqueror, the work chronicles the deeds, politics, battles, and leadership of the Norman dukes, especially William’s own claim to the English throne. The narrative combines earlier historical sources with firsthand information and oral testimony to present an authoritative account of Normandy’s transformation from a Viking settlement into one of medieval Europe’s most powerful realms. William’s history emphasizes the legitimacy, military prowess, and governance of the Norman line, framing their expansion, including the conquest of England, as both divinely sanctioned and noble in purpose. In September 1665 John Clotworthy 1st Viscount Massereene died. His son-in-law John Skeffington 2nd Viscount Massereene succeeded 2nd Viscount Massereene, 2nd Baron Lough Neagh.
In 1695 John Skeffington 2nd Viscount Massereene died. His son Clotworthy [aged 35] succeeded 3rd Viscount Massereene, 3rd Baron Lough Neagh, 5th Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
In 1714 Clotworthy Skeffington 3rd Viscount Massereene [aged 54] died. His son Clotworthy succeeded 4th Viscount Massereene, 4th Baron Lough Neagh, 6th Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
On 11th February 1738 Clotworthy Skeffington 4th Viscount Massereene died. His son Clotworthy [aged 23] succeeded 5th Viscount Massereene, 5th Baron Lough Neagh, 7th Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
On 14 or 17th September 1757 Clotworthy Skeffington 1st Earl Massereene [aged 42] died. His son Clotworthy [aged 15] succeeded 2nd Earl Massereene, 6th Viscount Massereene, 6th Baron Lough Neagh, 8th Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
On 28th February 1805 Clotworthy Skeffington 2nd Earl Massereene [aged 63] died without issue. His brother Henry [aged 61] succeeded 3rd Earl Massereene, 7th Viscount Massereene, 7th Baron Lough Neagh, 9th Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
On 2nd June 1811 Henry Skeffington 3rd Earl Massereene [aged 67] died unmarried. His brother Chichester [aged 65] succeeded 4th Earl Massereene, 8th Viscount Massereene, 8th Baron Lough Neagh, 10th Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
On 25th February 1816 Chichester Skeffington 4th Earl Massereene [aged 70] died. Earl Massereene, Baronet Skeffington of Fisherwick in Staffordshire extinct. His daughter Harriet [aged 27] succeeded 9th Viscountess Massereene, 9th Baroness Lough Neagh.
In 1831 Harriet Skeffington 9th Viscountess Massereene [aged 42] died. Her son John [aged 18] succeeded 10th Viscount Massereene, 10th Baron Lough Neagh.
On 1st August 1835 John Skeffington 10th Viscount Massereene, 3rd Viscount Ferrard [aged 22] and Olivia Grady Viscountess Massereene were married. She by marriage Viscountess Massereene. They had four sons and four daughters.

On 26th June 1905 Clotworthy Skeffington 11th Viscount Massereene, 5th Viscount Ferrard [aged 62] died. His son Algernon [aged 31] succeeded 12th Viscount Massereene, 5th Viscount Ferrard, 11th Baron Lough Neagh, 5th Baron Oriel, 5th Baron Oriel of Ferrand in Louth.
On 20th July 1956 Algernon Skeffington 12th Viscount Massereene, 5th Viscount Ferrard [aged 82] died. His son John [aged 41] succeeded 13th Viscount Massereene, 6th Viscount Ferrard, 12th Baron Lough Neagh, 6th Baron Oriel, 6th Baron Oriel of Ferrand in Louth.
On 27th December 1992 John Skeffington 13th Viscount Massereene, 6th Viscount Ferrard [aged 78] died. His son John [aged 52] succeeded 14th Viscount Massereene, 7th Viscount Ferrard, 13th Baron Lough Neagh, 7th Baron Oriel, 7th Baron Oriel of Ferrand in Louth.
