She by marriage Countess Holland. The wedding was attended by her sister [her aunt] Margaret Plantagenet Duchess Brabant (age 21), her father [her grandfather] King Edward I (age 57), her brother [her uncle] Edward (age 12) and her future second husband [her father] Humphrey Bohun 4th Earl Hereford 3rd Earl Essex (age 21). She the daughter of King Edward I of England and [her grandmother] Eleanor of Castile Queen Consort England. He the son of Floris Gerulfing V Count Holland and Beatrix Dampierre. They were half third cousin twice removed. He a great x 4 grandson of King Stephen I England.

On 5th May 1316 [her sister] Isabel Bohun was born to [her father] Humphrey Bohun 4th Earl Hereford 3rd Earl Essex (age 40) and [her mother] Princess Elizabeth of Rhuddlan Countess Essex, Hereford and Holland (age 33). His mother Princess Elizabeth of Rhuddlan Countess Essex, Hereford and Holland died in childbirth. She was buried at Waldon Priory and Abbey [Map]. She a granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Around 1322 [her daughter] Petronella Butler was born to [her future husband] James Butler 1st Earl Ormonde (age 17) and Eleanor Bohun Countess Ormonde (age 17). She a great granddaughter of King Edward I of England. She married her half third cousin once removed Gilbert Talbot 3rd Baron Talbot, son of Richard Talbot 2nd Baron Talbot and Elizabeth Comyn Baroness Talbot, and had issue.

Battle of Boroughbridge

On 16th March 1322 the rebel army led by Thomas Plantagenet 2nd Earl of Leicester, 2nd Earl Lancaster, Earl of Salisbury and Lincoln (age 44) attempted to cross the bridge over the River Ure (between Ripon and York) at Boroughbridge Bridge [Map]. Their path was blocked by forces loyal to the King led by Andrew Harclay 1st Earl Carlisle (age 52). Bartholomew Badlesmere 1st Baron Badlesmere (age 46), Roger Mortimer 1st Earl March (age 34), John Botetort 1st Baron Botetort (age 57) and John Maltravers 1st Baron Maltravers (age 32) fought for the rebels. Roger Clifford 2nd Baron Clifford (age 22), Nicholas Longford (age 37), Thomas Plantagenet 2nd Earl of Leicester, 2nd Earl Lancaster, Earl of Salisbury and Lincoln, John Mowbray 2nd Baron Mowbray (age 35) were captured.

Warin Lisle (age 51) was hanged after the battle at Pontefract [Map].

Following the battle Hugh Audley 1st Earl Gloucester (age 31) and his wife Margaret Clare Countess Gloucester were both imprisoned. He in Nottingham Castle [Map] and she in Sempringham Priory [Map].

John Clinton 2nd Baron Clinton (age 22), Ralph Greystoke 1st Baron Greystoke (age 22), William Latimer 2nd Baron Latimer of Corby (age 46), Robert Lisle 1st Baron Lisle (age 34), Domhnall Mar II Earl of Mar (age 29) and Peter Saltmarsh (age 42) fought for the King.

Adam Everingham 1st Baron Everingham of Laxton (age 43) was captured.

[her father] Humphrey Bohun 4th Earl Hereford 3rd Earl Essex (age 46) was killed. His son [her brother] John (age 15) succeeded 5th Earl Hereford, 4th Earl Essex.

Piers Grandison 2nd Baron Grandison (age 31) fough for the rebels, and was captured.

Hugh Audley 1st Baron Audley of Stratton Audley (age 55) surrendered before the battle and was imprisoned in Wallingford Castle [Map] for the rest of his life

John Giffard 2nd Baron Giffard Brimpsfield (age 34) was captured.

Battle of Sluys

On 24th June 1340 King Edward III of England (age 27) attacked the French fleet at anchor during the Battle of Sluys capturing more than 200 ships, killing around 18000 French. The English force included John Beauchamp 1st Baron Beauchamp Warwick (age 24), [her brother] William Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton (age 30), Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham (age 27), William Latimer 4th Baron Latimer of Corby (age 10), John Lisle 2nd Baron Lisle (age 22), Ralph Stafford 1st Earl Stafford (age 38), Henry of Grosmont 1st Duke Lancaster (age 30), Walter Manny 1st Baron Manny (age 30), Hugh Despencer 1st Baron Despencer (age 32) and Richard Pembridge (age 20).

Thomas Monthermer 2nd Baron Monthermer (age 38) died from wounds. His daughter Margaret succeeded 3rd Baroness Monthermer.

On 23rd December 1340 Hugh Courtenay 1st or 9th Earl Devon (age 64) died. His son [her brother-in-law] Hugh (age 37) succeeded 2nd Earl Devon, 5th Baron Okehampton, 2nd Baron Courtenay. [her sister] Margaret Bohun Countess Devon (age 29) by marriage Countess Devon.

Battle of Crécy

On 26th August 1346 the army of King Edward III of England (age 33) defeated the French army at the Battle of Crécy. Charles Valois Count Alençon (age 49) was killed. His son Charles (age 9) succeeded Count Alençon.

Louis Chatillon II Count Blois I Count Chatillon was killed. His son Louis succeeded III Count Blois.

Louis Dampierre II Count Nevers I Count Flanders (age 42) was killed. His son Louis (age 15) succeeded III Count Nevers, II Count Flanders.

King John I of Bohemia (age 50) was killed. His son Charles (age 30) succeeded IV King Bohemia.

Rudolph "Valiant" Metz I Duke Lorraine (age 26) was killed. His son John succeeded I Duke Lorraine.

Inspeximus and confirmation to [her husband] Thomas de Daggeworth (age 72), Eleanor (age 44), his wife, sister of [her brother] William de Bohun (age 38), earl of Northampton and constable of England, and the heirs of Thomas, of a charter (in French) of the earl, dated at London, 1 September, 1348, granting to them the castles, lordships, manors, isles, towns, lands and rents, with the chaces, parks, warrens, meadows, pastures, mills, waters, stanks, stews, rivers, fisheries, seccherif», customs, services, rights, profits and other things, knights* fees and advowsons of churches to the same pertaining, late of the lord of Lyons in the parts of Lyoims, Crondon, Cornewaile, Grey and elsewhere in the duchy of Brittany, which John de Mountfort, late duke of JJrittany, gave to the grantor, and which came into the hands of the duke hy the forfeiture of the said lord, to hold to them and the heirs of Thomas of John son and heir of John de Mountfort, now duke of Brittany and his heirs. [her husband] Thomas de Dagworth (age 73) and Eleanor (age 44), his wife, staying in Brittany, have letters nominating Wiilliam de Bromleye, clerk, and Peter Mercer, vicar of the church of Yoghill, as their attorneys in Ireland for two years. William de Newenham received the attorneys.

Patent Rolls. 27th November 1349. Westminster. Whereas the king by letters patent lately granted to Eleanor la Botillere (age 45) late the wife of [her former husband] James le Botiller, earl of Ormond, the farm which the alien prior of Wylmynton has to render to him for his priory during the war with France, [her husband] Thomas de Daggeworth (age 73), who has married the said countess, and the countess have made petition to him showing that they cannot obtain due payment of such farm because Tidemann de Limbergh now holds land pertaining to the priory for 86l. [?]s. [?]. to be rendered to the king yearly during the war: the king has granted, therefore, that they shall have the said rent by the hands of Tidemann for such time as the priory remain in the king's hands, if Eleanor sunrive so long, provided always that so much of the yearly payment which the prior used to render to them out of his said farm be withdrawn in the same form. She the daughter of William Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton and [her former sister-in-law] Elizabeth Badlesmere Countess Northampton. He the son of Richard Fitzalan 3rd or 10th Earl of Arundel 8th Earl of Surrey (age 53) and Eleanor Plantagenet Countess Arundel and Surrey (age 40). They were third cousins. He a great x 2 grandson of King Henry III of England. She a great granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Black Monday Hailstorm

On 13th April 1360 a freak weather event known as Black Monday Hailstorm occurred as the army of King Edward III of England (age 47) were camped outside Chartres [Map]. Thomas Beauchamp 11th Earl Warwick (age 47), [her brother] William Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton (age 50), Henry of Grosmont 1st Duke Lancaster (age 50), Edward "Black Prince" (age 29) and Walter Mauny were present. Around one thousand English were killed, with up to six thousand horses. King Edward III of England believed the event to be an Act of God and proceeded to negotiate with the French resulting in the Treaty of Brétigny.

On 28th April 1360 Guy Beauchamp died from injuries received during the Black Monday Hailstorm.

On 16th September 1360 [her brother] William Bohun 1st Earl of Northampton (age 50) died. He was buried either in the Courtenay Chantry Chapel at Exeter Cathedral [Map] or at Waldon Priory and Abbey [Map]. His son [her nephew] Humphrey (age 19) succeeded 2nd Earl of Northampton. Joan Fitzalan Countess Essex, Hereford and Northampton (age 13) by marriage Countess of Northampton.

On 15th October 1361 [her brother] Humphrey Bohun 6th Earl Hereford 5th Earl Essex (age 52) died. His nephew [her nephew] Humphrey (age 20) succeeded 7th Earl Hereford, 6th Earl Essex. Joan Fitzalan Countess Essex, Hereford and Northampton (age 14) by marriage Countess Essex, Countess Hereford.

Around November 1483 Thomas Grey 1st Marquess Dorset (age 28) and Eleanor Bohun Countess Ormonde escaped to Henry VII in Brittany [Map]. Walter Hungerford (age 19), Giles Daubeney 1st Baron Daubeney (age 32) and Edward Courtenay 1st Earl Devon (age 24) took part. The rebellion was suppressed by Richard Guildford (age 33) and Robert Willoughby 1st Baron Willoughby 9th Baron Latimer (age 31).
