The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1180 Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln was born to Hugh de Kevelioc Gernon 5th Earl Chester (age 33) and Bertrade Montfort Countess Chester. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.
On 30th June 1181 [her father] Hugh de Kevelioc Gernon 5th Earl Chester (age 34) died at Leek, Staffordshire [Map]. His son [her brother] Ranulf (age 11) succeeded 6th Earl Chester.
In 1202 [her son] John Gifford was born to [her future husband] John Gifford (age 22) and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 22). He a great x 3 grandson of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.
In or before 1205 John Gifford (age 24) and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 24) were married. She the daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc Gernon 5th Earl Chester and Bertrade Montfort Countess Chester.
Around 1205 [her daughter] Alicia Gifford was born to [her husband] John Gifford (age 25) and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 25) at Brimpsfield, Gloucestershire. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.
Around 1206 [her daughter] Margaret Quincy 3rd Countess Lincoln and Pembroke was born to [her future husband] Robert Quincy Earl Lincoln and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 26). She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.
Before 1217 Robert Quincy Earl Lincoln and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 36) were married. She the daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc Gernon 5th Earl Chester and Bertrade Montfort Countess Chester. He the son of Saer Quincy 1st Earl Winchester (age 46) and Margaret Beaumont Countess Winchester. In 1217 [her husband] Robert Quincy Earl Lincoln died.
In 1221 [her son-in-law] John Lacy Earl Lincoln (age 29) and [her daughter] Margaret Quincy 3rd Countess Lincoln and Pembroke (age 15) were married. She by marriage Baroness Halton, Baroness Pontefract. She the daughter of [her former husband] Robert Quincy Earl Lincoln and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 41).
In April 1231 Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 51) succeeded 2nd Countess Lincoln. [her former husband] Robert Quincy Earl Lincoln by marriage Earl Lincoln. She was gifted the title by her childless brother [her brother] Ranulf de Blondeville Gernon 6th Earl Chester 1st Earl Lincoln (age 61) by agreement with King Henry III of England (age 23).
On 23rd November 1232 [her daughter] Margaret Quincy 3rd Countess Lincoln and Pembroke (age 26) succeeded 3rd Countess Lincoln. Her mother Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 52) had gifted her the title only a year after having been gifted it by her uncle [her brother] Ranulf de Blondeville Gernon 6th Earl Chester 1st Earl Lincoln (deceased). [her son-in-law] John Lacy Earl Lincoln (age 40) by marriage Earl Lincoln.
On 6th June 1241 [her husband] John Gifford (age 61) died at Dorchester on Thames, Oxfordshire [Map].
In 1242 Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln (age 62) died.
[her son] Thomas Gifford was born to John Gifford and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln. He a great x 3 grandson of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.
