Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Before 1615 [his uncle] Walter Devereux 5th Viscount Hereford (age 39) and [his mother] Elizabeth Knightley Viscountess Hereford (age 26) were married.
Around 1621 Walter Devereux was born to [his uncle] Walter Devereux 5th Viscount Hereford (age 46) and [his mother] Elizabeth Knightley Viscountess Hereford (age 33).
Around 1622 [his grandfather] Edward Devereux 1st Baronet (age 78) died. His son [his uncle] Walter (age 47) succeeded 2nd Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
On 8th June 1634 [his mother] Elizabeth Knightley Viscountess Hereford (age 46) died.
On 14th September 1646 Robert Devereux 3rd Earl Essex (age 55) died. He was buried at Westminster Abbey [Map]. Earl Essex extinct. His half first cousin twice removed [his uncle] Walter (age 71) succeeded 5th Viscount Hereford. Baron Ferrers of Chartley, Baron Bourchier abeyant.
In 1656 [his uncle] Walter Devereux 5th Viscount Hereford (age 81) died. His son [his brother] Leicester (age 39) succeeded 6th Viscount Hereford, 3rd Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich. [his future sister-in-law] Priscilla Catchpole Viscountess Hereford by marriage Viscountess Hereford.
In 1658 and 1659 Walter Devereux (age 37) was appointed Commissioner for Sewers in Norfolk and Suffolk.
The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy
The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. Originally penned in Latin by the monk William of Jumièges shortly before 1060 and later expanded at the behest of William the Conqueror, the work chronicles the deeds, politics, battles, and leadership of the Norman dukes, especially William’s own claim to the English throne. In 1660 Walter Devereux (age 39) was elected MP Orford. He was re-elected in 1661 and sat until 1679.
In 1660 Walter Devereux (age 39) became a Freeman of Orford, Suffolk [Map].
In July 1660 Walter Devereux (age 39) was a Justice of the Peace for Suffolk.
In or before 1675 [his brother] Leicester Devereux 6th Viscount Hereford (age 57) and [his sister-in-law] Priscilla Catchpole Viscountess Hereford were married.
On 1st December 1676 [his brother] Leicester Devereux 6th Viscount Hereford (age 59) died. His son [his nephew] Leicester (age 2) succeeded 7th Viscount Hereford, 4th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
In December 1683 Walter Devereux (age 62) died at Little Glemham, Suffolk.
