David Niven 1910-1983

On 1st March 1910 David Niven was born.

Around 1928 Margaret Whigham [aged 15] underwent an abortion having become pregnant following a liason with David Niven [aged 17] whilst on holiday at Bembridge, Isle of Wight.

On 16th September 1940 David Niven [aged 30] and Primula Susan Rollo [aged 22] were married.

On 21st May 1946 [his wife] Primula Susan Rollo [aged 28] died. She fractured her skull in a fall in the Beverly Hills, California home of Tyrone Power, while playing a game of sardines. She had walked through a door believing it to be a closet, but instead, it led to a stone staircase to the basement.

In January 1948 David Niven [aged 37] and Hjördis Paulina Genberg [aged 28] were married.

On 29th July 1983 David Niven [aged 73] died at his chalet at Château-d'Oex, District de la Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut.

On 2nd August 1983 David Niven [deceased] was buried in a private ceremony at a Church of St Peter, Château-d'Oex. Yehudi Menuhin and seven of his students played the violin. Prince Rainier of Monaco comforted the British actor's widow [his former wife] Hjördis Paulina Genberg [aged 63]. Niven's Scottish pastor friend Arnot Morrison conducted the funeral service. The British ambassador to Switzerland, John Powell-Jones, represented the British government at the funeral.

On 22nd October 1983 a Memorial Service was held for David Niven at St Martin in the Fields Church [Map]. The servie was attended by Margaret Whigham [aged 70], Richard Attenborough, Michael Caine, Jon Pertwee, Anthony Quayle, Sir John Mills, Shirley Anne Field and John Mortimer.

On 24th December 1997 [his former wife] Hjördis Paulina Genberg [aged 78] died at Céligny, Geneva.
