Before 1504 [her father] John Grey 2nd Viscount Lisle (age 23) and [her mother] Muriel Howard Viscountess Lisle (age 18) were married. She by marriage Viscountess Lisle. She the daughter of Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 60) and Elizabeth Tilney Countess of Surrey. They were third cousins.

In 1504 [her father] John Grey 2nd Viscount Lisle (age 23) died. Viscount Lisle extinct. Some sources suggest his daughter Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon inherited the Viscountcy whereas as others suggest she inherited the Barony only.

On 25 Mar 1505 Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon was born to John Grey 2nd Viscount Lisle and Muriel Howard Viscountess Lisle (age 20). Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon succeeded posthumously 5th Baroness Lisle.

Before 1508 [her step-father] Thomas Knyvet (age 23) and [her mother] Muriel Howard Viscountess Lisle (age 22) were married. She the daughter of Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 64) and Elizabeth Tilney Countess of Surrey. They were fourth cousins.

On 09 Jun 1511 William Courtenay 1st Earl Devon (age 36) died of pleurisy. His son [her future husband] Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 15) succeeded 2nd Earl Devon. His widow [her future mother-in-law] Catherine York Countess Devon (age 31) subsequently took a vow of celibacy in the presence of Bishop Richard Fitzjames on 13 Jul 1511.

On 14 Dec 1511 [her mother] Muriel Howard Viscountess Lisle (age 26) died.

In 1513 Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 29) was betrothed to Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 7). He was created 1st Viscount Lisle in recognition of the betrothal.

In or after 1513 Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 29) sold the wardship of Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 7) to [her future mother-in-law] Catherine York Countess Devon (age 33) for £4000 who thereafter married Elizabeth to her son [her future husband] Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 17).

In 1514 Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 30) was created 1st Duke Suffolk by King Henry VIII of England and Ireland (age 22). Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 8) by marriage Duchess Suffolk.

In May 1515 Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 31) and Mary Tudor Queen Consort France (age 19) were married. She by marriage Duchess Suffolk. She had married Louis XII King France in Oct 1514; he had died on 01 Jan 1515. Around this time he surrendered the title Viscount Lisle which he had been created in anticipation of this marrige to Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 10) which never took place. Viscount Lisle forfeit. She the daughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England.

After Jun 1515 Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 19) and Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 10) were married. She by marriage Countess Devon. He the son of William Courtenay 1st Earl Devon and Catherine York Countess Devon (age 35). He a grandson of King Edward IV of England.

In 1519 Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 13) died. Her aunt [her aunt] Elizabeth Grey Viscountess Lisle (age 39) succeeded 6th Baroness Lisle.

On 25 Oct 1519 [her former husband] Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 23) and Gertrude Blount Marchioness of Exeter (age 16) were married. She by marriage Countess Devon. He the son of William Courtenay 1st Earl Devon and Catherine York Countess Devon (age 40). He a grandson of King Edward IV of England.

Exeter Conspiracy

On 09 Dec 1539 Henry Pole 1st Baron Montagu (age 47) and [her former husband] Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 43) were beheaded at Tower Hill [Map]. Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 43), his wife Gertrude Blount Marchioness of Exeter (age 36) and their son Edward Courtenay 1st Earl Devon (age 12) were attainted; Marquess Exeter, Earl Devon, Earl Devon, Baron Okehampton, Baron Courtenay forfeit.

His son was subsequently created 1st Earl Devon in 1553. Marquess Exeter, Earl Devon and Earl Devon subject to attainder.
