On 12 Jan 1405 Eleanor Maltravers 2nd Baroness Maltravers Baroness Arundel and Cobham (age 60) died at Sussex. She was buried at Lewes Priory [Map]. Her grandson [his father] John Fitzalan 13th Earl Arundel (age 19) succeeded 3rd Baron Maltravers.

Before 1407 [his father] John Fitzalan 13th Earl Arundel (age 21) and [his mother] Eleanor Berkeley Countess Arundel (age 24) were married. They were second cousin twice removed. He a great x 4 grandson of King Henry III of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King John "Lackland" of England.

On 14 Feb 1408 John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel was born to John Fitzalan 13th Earl Arundel (age 22) and Eleanor Berkeley Countess Arundel (age 26) at Lytchett Maltravers, Dorset.

On 13 Oct 1415 Thomas Fitzalan 10th Earl Surrey 12th Earl Arundel (age 34) died. In 1426 John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 17) was knighted.

Before 1427 John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 18) and Constance Cornwall Countess of Arundel were married. There is some uncertainty as to whether they did marry; they were betrothed as children. She the daughter of John Cornwall 1st Baron Fanhope 1st Baron Milbroke (age 62) and Elizabeth Lancaster Duchess Exeter. He the son of John Fitzalan 13th Earl Arundel and Eleanor Berkeley Countess Arundel (age 44). They were third cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry III of England. She a great granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

In 1427 [his wife] Constance Cornwall Countess of Arundel died.

In 1429 John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 20) and Maud Lovell Countess Arundel were married. She by marriage Countess Arundel Sussex. He the son of John Fitzalan 13th Earl Arundel and Eleanor Berkeley Countess Arundel (age 47). He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry III of England.

On 30 Jan 1429 [his son] Humphrey Fitzalan 15th Earl Arundel was born to John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 20) and [his wife] Maud Lovell Countess Arundel.

In Apr 1432 John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 24) was appointed 147th Knight of the Garter by King Henry VI of England and II of France (age 10).

Battle of Gerberoy

                    On 09 May 1435 a French force commanded by Étienne Vignolles "La Hire" heavily defeated an English force commanded by John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 27) at the Battle of Gerberoy.                

                    On 12 Jun 1435 John Fitzalan 14th Earl Arundel (age 27) was captured and died from wounds received at the battle. His son [his son] Humphrey Fitzalan 15th Earl Arundel (age 6) succeeded 15th Earl Arundel Sussex, 5th Baron Maltravers, 5th Baron Arundel.                

                    Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers (age 30) fought.                

Chronicle of Gregory 1435. 12 Jun 1435. And that same yere was slayne the Erle of Arundelle (age 27) in France.

Effigy of John Fitz-Alan, Lord Maltravers and Earl of Arundel. JOHN FITZ-ALAN was descended directly, in the third degree, from John the second son of Richard Earl of Arundel, noticed at p. 83, who [Note. John.] married Eleanor daughter of Lord Maltravers, he was the eldest son of John Fitz-Alan, Lord Maltravers, by his wife Eleanor (age 54), daughter of Sir John Berkeley, and was born in 1407. His father had previously succeeded to the estates of his kinsman, Thomas Earl of Arundel, grandson of Richard before mentioned, by the elder branch; but it does not appear that he ever bore the title of Earl of Arundel. In 1432 John Fitz-Alan preferred a petition to the Parliament that he might be admitted to his due place in all public councils, inasmuch as he was seised of the Castle and Honour of Arundel, to which the title of Earl had, by peculiar custom, time out of mind, been annexed.

Roger Fiennes and Elizabeth Holland were married. She the daughter of John Holland 1st Duke Exeter and Elizabeth Lancaster Duchess Exeter. She a great granddaughter of King Edward III of England.
