Before 1650 [his father] Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery (age 29) and [his mother] Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery (age 28) were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. He the son of Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery (age 65) and Susan Vere Countess Montgomery.
On 23 Jan 1650 [his grandfather] Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery (age 65) died at Whitehall Palace [Map]. He was buried at Salisbury Cathedral [Map]. His son [his father] Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery (age 29) succeeded 5th Earl Pembroke, 2nd Earl Montgomery.
On or before 05 Jan 1652 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery was born to Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery (age 31) and Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery (age 31). He was baptised at St Benet's Church, Paul's Wharf [Map] on 05 Jan 1652.
On 11 Dec 1669 [his father] Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery (age 48) died. His son [his half-brother] William Herbert 6th Earl Pembroke 3rd Earl Montgomery (age 28) succeeded 6th Earl Pembroke, 3rd Earl Montgomery.
On 08 Jul 1674 [his half-brother] William Herbert 6th Earl Pembroke 3rd Earl Montgomery (age 33) died. His half brother Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 22) succeeded 7th Earl Pembroke, 4th Earl Montgomery.
On 17 Dec 1674 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 22) and Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. He the son of Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery and Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery (age 53).
Around 1676 [his daughter] Charlotte Herbert Viscountess Windsor was born to Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 23) and [his wife] Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery.
On 28 Jan 1678 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 26) was imprisoned at Tower of London [Map] by King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland (age 47) "for uttering such horrid and blasphemous words, and other actions proved upon oath, as are not fit to be repeated in any Christian assembly". He was released two days later on 30 Jan 1678.
Before 05 Feb 1678 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 26) had kicked to death Nathaniel Cony in a tavern for no apparent reason, and a few days later a Middlesex grand jury indicted him for murder. He was tried by his peers on 04 Apr 1678 and found guilty of manslaughter. He successfully pleaded Privilege of peerage, the right to escape punishment for one's first offence, and he was discharged on payment of all fees. The Lord High Steward presiding at the trial, James Butler 1st Duke Ormonde (age 67) warned him to note "that no man could have the benefit of that statute but once". The foreman of the jury Edmund Berry Godfrey (age 56) was found dead in a ditch nine months later.
On 28 Feb 1678 [his mother] Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery (age 57) died.
On 18 Aug 1681 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 29) killed William Smeeth following a drunken evening in the tavern on Turnham Green Chiswick. On 21 Jun 1681 he was indicted for the murder; somewhat inexplicably he received a Royal Pardon.
On 28 Aug 1683 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery (age 31) died. He was buried at Salisbury Cathedral [Map]. His brother [his brother] Thomas Herbert 8th Earl Pembroke 5th Earl Montgomery (age 27) succeeded 8th Earl Pembroke, 5th Earl Montgomery.
In Dec 1728 [his former wife] Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery died.
