She the daughter of [his grandfather] Charles Seymour 6th Duke of Somerset and [his grandmother] Charlotte Finch Duchess Somerset [aged 57]. He the son of John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 53] and Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland. They were fifth cousins.
On 15th March 1754 Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland was born to [his father] John Manners Marquess of Granby [aged 33] and [his mother] Frances Seymour [aged 25].
On 25th January 1761 [his mother] Frances Seymour [aged 32] died.
Around 1764 Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 9] educated at Eton College [Map].
Around 1770 Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 15] educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University [Map].
On 18th October 1770 [his father] John Manners Marquess of Granby [aged 49] died.
On 9th July 1772 [his brother-in-law] George Carpenter 2nd Earl Tyrconnel [aged 22] and [his sister] Frances Manners Countess Tyrconnel [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Countess Tyrconnel. He the son of George Carpenter 1st Earl Tyrconnel and Frances Clifton Countess Tyrconnel.
On 26th December 1775 Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 21] and Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 19] were married. She the daughter of Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort and Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 62]. They were half fourth cousins.
In 1778 [his son] John Henry Manners 5th Duke Rutland was born to Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 23] and [his wife] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 21]. He married 22nd April 1799 his fourth cousin Elizabeth Howard Duchess Rutland, daughter of Frederick Howard 5th Earl Carlisle and Margaret Caroline Leveson-Gower Countess Carlisle, and had issue.
On 29th May 1779 [his grandfather] John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 82] died. His grandson Charles [aged 25] succeeded 4th Duke Rutland, 4th Marquess Grandby, 12th Earl of Rutland, 4th Baron Manners of Haddon in Derbyshire. [his wife] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 22] by marriage Duchess Rutland.
On 24th October 1780 [his son] Charles Henry Manners was born to Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 26] and [his wife] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 24].
On 14th December 1781 [his son] Robert William Manners was born to Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 27] and [his wife] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 25].

In 1783 [his son] William Robert Albanac Manners was born to Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 28] and [his wife] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 26]. He died aged ten in 1793.
On 11th February 1784 Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 29] was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.
On 24th October 1787 Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 33] died at Phoenix Park Lodge, Phoenix Park, Dublin. His son John [aged 9] succeeded 5th Duke Rutland, 5th Marquess Grandby, 13th Earl of Rutland, 5th Baron Manners of Haddon in Derbyshire.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.
