On 2nd July 1536 three weddings between the Neville, and Manners and Vere families, were celebrated at one mass at Holywell Priory [Map]:

[his uncle] Henry Neville 5th Earl of Westmoreland (age 11) and [his aunt] Anne Manners Countess of Westmoreland (age 9) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland (age 44) and [his grandmother] Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland (age 41). He the son of [his grandfather] Ralph Neville 4th Earl of Westmoreland (age 38) and [his grandmother] Katherine Stafford Countess of Westmoreland (age 37). They were half fourth cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

[his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland (age 9) and [his mother] Margaret Neville Countess Rutland were married. She the daughter of Ralph Neville 4th Earl of Westmoreland and Katherine Stafford Countess of Westmoreland. He the son of Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland. They were half fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.

John de Vere 16th Earl of Oxford (age 20) and [his aunt] Dorothy Neville Countess of Oxford were married. She the daughter of Ralph Neville 4th Earl of Westmoreland and Katherine Stafford Countess of Westmoreland. He the son of John de Vere 15th Earl of Oxford (age 65) and Elizabeth Trussell Countess of Oxford.

Those present included Thomas Audley 1st Baron Audley Walden (age 48), Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 63), Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 52), Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 19), Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 40), John de Vere 15th Earl of Oxford and Ralph Neville 4th Earl of Westmoreland.

On 2nd July 1549 Edward Manners 3rd was born to [his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland (age 22) and [his mother] Margaret Neville Countess Rutland.

In 1552 [his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland (age 25) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Battle of St Quentin

On 10th August 1557 [his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland (age 30) fought being Captain-General of the cavalry at the Battle of St Quentin.

Jean Bourbon Count Soissons and Enghien (age 29) was killed at the Battle of St Quentin. His brother Louis (age 27) succeeded Count Soissons.

Henry Dudley (age 26) was killed.

After 1559 [his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland (age 32) and [his step-mother] Bridget Hussey Countess Bedford (age 33) were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland and [his grandmother] Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

On 17th September 1563 [his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland (age 36) died. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map]. His son Edward (age 14) succeeded 3rd Earl of Rutland, 14th Baron Ros Helmsley. Edward Manners 3rd became a ward of Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland (age 30) and was specially under the charge of William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley (age 43).

Elizabeth I's visit to Cambridge University

On 5th August 1570 Edward Manners 3rd (age 21) was appointed Constable of Nottingham Castle [Map] and steward, keeper, warden, and chief justice of Sherwood Forest.

In 1571 Edward Manners 3rd (age 21) was feodary of the duchy of Lancaster for the counties of Nottingham and Derby.

Before 1572 [his brother] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland (age 20) and [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland (age 18) were married. He the son of [his father] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland and [his mother] Margaret Neville Countess Rutland.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 6th June 1573 Edward Manners 3rd (age 23) and Isabel Holcroft Countess Rutland (age 23) were married. She by marriage Countess of Rutland, Baroness Ros Helmsley. He the son of Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland and Margaret Neville Countess Rutland.

In 1574 Edward Manners 3rd (age 24) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Around January 1575 [his daughter] Elizabeth Manners 15th Baroness Ros of Helmsley was born to Edward Manners 3rd (age 25) and [his wife] Isabel Holcroft Countess Rutland (age 25). She married January 1589 her fifth cousin William Cecil 2nd Earl Exeter, son of Thomas Cecil 1st Earl Exeter and Dorothy Neville Countess Exeter, and had issue.

On 17th June 1577 Edward Manners 3rd (age 27) was placed on the ecclesiastical commission for the province of York.

In 1579 Edward Manners 3rd (age 29) was on the Council of the North.

In 1584 Edward Manners 3rd (age 34) was appointed 366th Knight of the Garter by Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland (age 50).

On 14th June 1585 Edward Manners 3rd (age 35) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire.

Trial of Mary Queen of Scots

On 14th April 1587 Edward Manners 3rd (age 37) died at his home Ivy Bridge on the Strand [Map] or at Puddle Wharf aka Dock [Map]. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map]. His daughter [his daughter] Elizabeth (age 12) succeeded 15th Baroness Ros Helmsley. His brother [his brother] John (age 36) succeeded 4th Earl of Rutland. [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland (age 34) by marriage Countess of Rutland. He would be Earl for ten months only dying on 24 Feb 1588.

Robert Constable (age 65) was one of the principal mourners at his funeral.

Isabel Holcroft Countess Rutland: In 1550 she was born to Thomas Holcroft. On 6th June 1573 Edward Manners 3rd and she were married. She by marriage Countess of Rutland, Baroness Ros Helmsley. He the son of Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland and Margaret Neville Countess Rutland. Around 16th January 1606 she died.

The Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.
