Letters of Harriet, Countess Granville. To Lady G. Morpeth (age 28). Trentham. September 18, 1811.
Hartington (age 21) goes to-morrow, in an agony lest I should spoil the pleasure he has of telling things by writing them to you first. I am therefore tongue-tied on many subjects.
Is it possible that the Duchess has written to you in her own name to ask you to lie in at Chiswick? It is too hard, as that dear angel Hart, says, to rob him of the pleasure of doing those things himself. I may boast to you of his affection for us; we really are at present his great objects. It is in everything, and a wish to be with us beyond all others. He is to be at Tixal the end of October again, and I will, if I possibly can, keep him there for you.
We go to Tixal the day after to-morrow. I must take Mr. Vernon (age 26)1 away to flirt with my beauties there. It will not be dangerous for Lady Harriet, and Corise (age 28) bears a charmed life. He will be proud beyond measure and fancy both are in love with him.
I have had a very affectionate letter from Caroline2 since the one I mentioned to you, and a very odd one from her namesake, Caroline William (age 25)3, wishing the learned could explain the incongruity of her behaviour. They would be put to it indeed.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

She would, a year later, marry his legitimate half-brother George Edward Waldegrave 7th Earl Waldegrave (age 23); an example of Married to Two Siblings. He the illegitmate son of John James Waldegrave 6th Earl Waldegrave.
Adeline Horsey Recollections. [his future wife] Frances, Lady Waldegrave (age 18), was a very charming woman I knew in those far-off days. She was the eldest daughter of [his future father-in-law] John Braham (age 66), the famous tenor, and she was married four times.
Her first husband was John James Waldegrave, of Navestock, Essex; and in 1840 she married George, seventh Earl of Waldegrave (age 23). In 1847 Lady Waldegrave took as her third husband George Granville Harcourt (age 54), the eldest son of the Archbishop of York. The one love of her life, however, was Mr. Chichester Fortescue (age 16), and she married him as her fourth husband in 1871. Mr. Fortescue was afterwards Lord Carlingford, but the title became extinct in 1898.
When Lady Waldegrave was a young girl a gipsy told her that she would be married four times and leave her fourth husband a widower. The prediction came true, for she died in 1879, and Mr. Fortescue survived her.
On 28th September 1840 George Edward Waldegrave 7th Earl Waldegrave (age 24) and [his future wife] Frances Braham Countess Waldegrave (age 19) were married at Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire thereby avoiding the constraint of the 1835 Marriage Act. He being the legitimate younger brother of her first husband John James Waldegrave; an example of Married to Two Siblings. He the son of John James Waldegrave 6th Earl Waldegrave.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.
