Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Biography of Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley 1796-1835

Paternal Family Tree: Dashwood

On 17th July 1780 [her father] Henry Watkin Dashwood 3rd Baronet [aged 34] and [her mother] Helen Graham [aged 17] were married.

In 1796 Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley was born to Henry Watkin Dashwood 3rd Baronet [aged 50] and Helen Graham [aged 33].

In 1796 [her mother] Helen Graham [aged 33] died.

On 22nd March 1806 Charles Tottenham aka Loftus 1st Marquess Ely [aged 68] died. His son [her future brother-in-law] John [aged 36] succeeded 2nd Marquess Ely in County Wexford, 2nd Viscount Loftus of Ely. [her sister] Anna Maria Dashwood Marchioness Ely [aged 16] by marriage Marchioness Ely in County Wexford.

On 22nd May 1810 [her brother-in-law] John Loftus 2nd Marquess Ely [aged 40] and [her sister] Anna Maria Dashwood Marchioness Ely [aged 20] were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. He the son of Charles Tottenham aka Loftus 1st Marquess Ely and Jane Myhill Marchioness Ely.

On 28th April 1817 Jacob Astley 5th Baronet [aged 60] died. His son [her future husband] Jacob [aged 19] succeeded 6th Baronet Astley of Hill Morton.

In 1819 Jacob Astley 16th Baron Hastings [aged 21] and Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Lady Astley of Hill Morton.

On 21st March 1822 [her son] Jacob Henry Delaval Astley 17th Baron Hastings was born to [her husband] Jacob Astley 16th Baron Hastings [aged 24] and Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley [aged 26].

On 24th March 1825 [her son] Delaval Loftus Astley 18th Baron Hastings was born to [her husband] Jacob Astley 16th Baron Hastings [aged 27] and Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley [aged 29]. He married before 1855 Frances Diana Manners-Sutton Baroness Hastings, daughter of Charles Manners-Sutton 1st Viscount Canterbury and Lucy Maria Denison, and had issue.

On 10th June 1828 [her father] Henry Watkin Dashwood 3rd Baronet [aged 82] died. His son [her half-brother] George [aged 41] succeeded 4th Baronet Dashwood of Kirtlington Park in Oxfordshire.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 24th June 1829 Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley [aged 33] eloped with Captain Thomas Garth [aged 28].

In October 1830 Captain Thomas Garth [aged 30] was committed for debt to the King's Bench Prison [Map] and Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley [aged 34] lived with him there.

In 1835 Georgiana Carolina Dashwood Lady Astley [aged 39] died of scarlet fever at King's Bench Prison [Map].

On 27th December 1859 [her former husband] Jacob Astley 16th Baron Hastings [aged 62] died. His son Jacob [aged 37] succeeded 17th Baron Hastings, 7th Baronet Astley of Hill Morton.
