Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

Biography of Robert Blore 1780-1838

Around 1780 Robert Blore was born.

On 10th September 1790 Matthew Forster [aged 64] died. Memorial at Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Bolton [Map] sculpted by Robert Blore [aged 10] commissioned by his daughters Eleanor Forster [aged 19] and Jane Forster [aged 13].

Matthew Forster: Around 1726 he was born. On or before 1761 he and Jane Brown were married.

On 7th June 1821 Elizabeth Stephenson Countess Mexborough [aged 59] died. She was buried in Westminster Abbey [Map].

Elizabeth Stephenson Countess Mexborough: Around 1762 she was born to Henry Stephenson. In 1782 John Savile 2nd Earl Mexborough and she were married. She by marriage Countess Mexborough of Lifford in County Donegal. He the son of John Savile 1st Earl Mexborough and Sarah Delaval Countess Mexborough.

On 10th March 1831 Montague Cholmeley 1st Baronet [aged 58] died. He was buried at St Andrew and St Mary's Church, Stoke Rochford where he has a monument by Robert Blore [aged 51]. His son Montague [aged 28] succeeded 2nd Baronet Cholmeley of Easton in Lincolnshire. Georgiana Beauclerk Lady Cholmeley [aged 22] by marriage Lady Cholmeley of Easton in Lincolnshire.

In 1838 Robert Blore [aged 58] died.
