The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 4th May 1824 William Nigel Gresley 9th Baronet (age 18) matriculated at Christ Church College, Oxford University.
In 1829 William Nigel Gresley 9th Baronet (age 22) graduated at Christ Church College, Oxford University with a BA.
On 3rd October 1829 [his father] Reverend William Gresley of Seale, Leicestershire (age 69) died.
In 1830 William Nigel Gresley 9th Baronet (age 23) was appointed Rector of Seala in Leicestershire.
On 25th March 1831 William Nigel Gresley 9th Baronet (age 25) and Georgina-Anne Reid were married.
On 17th June 1832 [his son] Thomas Gresley 10th Baronet was born to William Nigel Gresley 9th Baronet (age 26) and [his wife] Georgina-Anne Reid.
On 12th October 1837 Roger Gresley 8th Baronet (age 37) died. He was buried at St George and St Mary's Church, Church Gresley on 28th October 1837. His first cousin William (age 31) succeeded 9th Baronet Gresley of Drakelow in Derbyshire.
On 3rd September 1847 William Nigel Gresley 9th Baronet (age 41) died at Netherseale Hall. His son [his son] Thomas (age 15) succeeded 10th Baronet Gresley of Drakelow in Derbyshire.
