Biography of Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon 1767-1852

On 25th May 1765 [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 24) and [his mother] Harriet Stewart were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway (age 71) and [his grandmother] Catherine Cochrane Countess Galloway (age 56). He the son of [his grandfather] James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon and [his grandmother] Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 55). They were half fifth cousin once removed.

On 3rd October 1767 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon was born to [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 27) and [his mother] Harriet Stewart at St James' Square. He was educated at Harrow School.

In 1788 [his mother] Harriet Stewart died.

In 1799 [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 58) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.

On 2nd August 1799 Douglas Hamilton 8th Duke Hamilton 5th Duke Brandon (age 43) died at Hamilton Palace, Hamilton. His uncle [his father] Archibald (age 59) succeeded 9th Duke Hamilton, 6th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 5th Marquess Douglas, 6th Baron Dutton of Cheshire. His half brother George (age 30) succeeded 3rd Baron Hamilton of Hameldon in Leicestershire.

On 24th June 1800 [his brother-in-law] Edward Seymour 11th Duke of Somerset (age 25) and [his sister] Charlotte Hamilton Duchess Somerset (age 28) were married. She by marriage Duchess Somerset. She the daughter of [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 59) and [his mother] Harriet Stewart. He the son of Webb Seymour 10th Duke of Somerset and Anne Maria Bonnell Duchess Somerset.

In 1803 [his brother-in-law] George Murray 5th Earl Dunmore (age 40) and [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore (age 29) were married. She the daughter of [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 62) and [his mother] Harriet Stewart. He the son of John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore (age 73) and [his aunt] Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore (age 73). They were first cousins.

On 25th February 1809 John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore (age 79) died. His son [his brother-in-law] George (age 46) succeeded 5th Earl Dunmore. [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore (age 35) by marriage Countess Dunmore.

On 26th April 1810 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon (age 42) and Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 23) were married. He the son of Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 69) and Harriet Stewart.

On 19th February 1811 [his son] William Alexander Archibald Hamilton 11th Duke Hamilton 8th Duke Brandon was born to Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon (age 43) and [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 24).

On 9th June 1814 [his daughter] Susan Harriet Catherine Hamilton Duchess Newcastle under Lyne was born to Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon (age 46) and [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 28). She married 27th November 1832 Henry Pelham-Clinton 5th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne, son of Henry Pelham-Clinton 4th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne and Georgiana Elizabeth Miller Mundy Duchess Newcastle under Lyne, and had issue.

On 16th February 1819 [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon (age 78) died. His son Alexander (age 51) succeeded 10th Duke Hamilton, 7th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 6th Marquess Douglas, 7th Baron Dutton of Cheshire. [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 32) by marriage Duchess Hamilton, Duchess Brandon of Suffolk.

On 7th June 1820 Charles Cavendish Fulke Greville (age 26) noted in his diary "The Queen (age 52) arrived in London yesterday at seven o'clock ... She travelled in an open landau, Alderman Wood (age 52) sitting by her side and [his sister] Lady Anne Hamilton (age 54) and another woman opposite. Everybody was disgusted at the vulgarity of Wood in sitting in the place of honour, while the Duke of Hamilton's (age 52) sister was sitting backwards in the carriage"

In 1827 [his sister] Charlotte Hamilton Duchess Somerset (age 55) died.

In 1831 [his brother-in-law] George Murray 5th Earl Dunmore (age 68) was created 1st Baron Dunmore of Dunmore in the Forest of Athole in Perthshire. [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore (age 57) by marriage Baroness Dunmore of Dunmore in the Forest of Athole in Perthshire.

On 27th November 1832 [his son-in-law] Henry Pelham-Clinton 5th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne (age 21) and [his daughter] Susan Harriet Catherine Hamilton Duchess Newcastle under Lyne (age 18) were married. She the daughter of Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon (age 65) and [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 46). He the son of Henry Pelham-Clinton 4th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne (age 47) and Georgiana Elizabeth Miller Mundy Duchess Newcastle under Lyne.

In 1836 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon (age 68) was appointed 677th Knight of the Garter by King William IV of the United Kingdom (age 70).

In 1846 [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore (age 72) died.

On 18th August 1852 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon (age 84) died. His son William (age 41) succeeded 11th Duke Hamilton, 8th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 7th Marquess Douglas, 8th Baron Dutton of Cheshire.

On 27th May 1859 [his former wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon (age 73) died.
