William Douglas 6th and Agnes Leslie Countess Morton were married. She by marriage Countess Morton. She the daughter of George Leslie 4th Earl Rothes.

William Douglas 6th succeeded 6th Earl Morton.

In 1527 [his father] Robert Douglas (age 21) and [his mother] Margaret Erskine (age 11) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Erskine 17th Earl of Mar (age 39) and [his grandmother] Margaret Campbell Countess Mar.

In 1540 William Douglas 6th was born to [his father] Robert Douglas (age 34) and [his mother] Margaret Erskine (age 24) at Lochleven Castle, Kinross.

Battle of Pinkie Cleugh

On 10th September 1547 an English army commanded by Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset (age 47) defeated a Scottish army commanded by James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran (age 31) and Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 58) at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh at Musselburgh.

The English army included John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland (age 43), Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 47), Miles Partridge and Thomas Wentworth 2nd Baron Wentworth (age 22). John Thynne (age 32) and Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos (age 25) were knighted.

William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley (age 26) accompanied Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset.

Edward Shelley of Worminghurst Park (age 44) was killed.

John Forbes 6th Lord Forbes (age 82), Christopher Coningsby (age 31) and Edward Clere were killed.

John Thynne was knighted after the battle.

The Scottish army included John Gordon 11th Earl Sutherland (age 22) who commanded the Rearguard and Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 32). John Stewart, [his father] Robert Douglas (age 41), John Livingston, Thomas Hamilton of Priestfield and Hugh Montgomerie were killed. John Hay 4th Lord Hay was captured but soon released.

Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 53) was killed. His son James (age 13) succeeded 4th Lord Fleming. Barbara Hamilton Lady Fleming by marriage Lord Fleming.

Robert Graham Master of Montrose and James Gordon of Lochinvar were killed.

On 7th February 1562 [his illegitimate half-brother] James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Regent (age 31) was created 1st Earl Moray and 1st Earl Mar.

On 8th February 1562 [his illegitimate half-brother] James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Regent (age 31) and [his sister-in-law] Agnes Keith Countess Moray and Mar (age 31) were married at St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh. She by marriage Countess Moray and Countess Mar. She the daughter of William Keith 4th Earl Marischal (age 55) and Margaret Keith Countess Marischal. He the illegitmate son of King James V of Scotland and [his mother] Margaret Erskine (age 46). They were fourth cousins. He a great grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

Mary Queen of Scots escapes from Lochleven Castle, Kinross

On 2nd May 1568 Mary Queen of Scots (age 25) escaped from Lochleven Castle, Kinross with the help of [his brother] George Douglas of Helenhill (brother of William Douglas 6th (age 28), the castle's owner) and Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley (age 21).

Battle of Langside

On 13th May 1568 the army of Mary Queen of Scots (age 25) commanded by Archibald Campbell 5th Earl Argyll (age 34) was defeated by the army of the Regent her illegitimate half-brother [his illegitimate half-brother] James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Regent (age 37).

John Campbell was killed.

William "Younger" Douglas 7th Lord Drumlanrig and Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton (age 15) fought.

Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley (age 21) and George Seton 7th Lord Seton (age 37) fought for the Queen.

John Graham 6th Earl Menteith fought for the Earl of Moray.

In 1569 [his son] James Douglas was born to William Douglas 6th (age 29) and Agnes Leslie Countess Morton (age 26). He married (1) Helen Scott (2) Jean Anstruther (3) Mary Kerr.

James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Assassinated by Firearm

On 23rd January 1570 [his illegitimate half-brother] James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Regent (age 39) was assassinated at Linlithgow by James Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh, a supporter of Mary Queen of Scots (age 27). His daughter [his illegitimate niece] Elizabeth (age 4) succeeded 2nd Countess Moray. As he was passing in a cavalcade in the main street below, Hamilton fatally wounded him with a carbine shot from a window of his uncle Archbishop Hamilton's (age 57) house. He was the first head of government to be assassinated by a firearm.

On 5th May 1572 [his mother] Margaret Erskine (age 56) died.

In 1574 [his daughter] Agnes Douglas Countess Argyll was born to William Douglas 6th (age 34) and Agnes Leslie Countess Morton (age 31) at Lochleven Castle, Kinross. She married 24th July 1592 her third cousin Archibald Campbell 7th Earl Argyll, son of Colin Campbell 6th Earl Argyll and Agnes Keith Countess Moray and Mar, and had issue.

In 1574 [his son-in-law] John Wemyss (age 16) and [his daughter] Margaret Douglas were married. She the daughter of William Douglas 6th Earl Morton (age 34) and Agnes Leslie Countess Morton (age 31).

On 18th August 1580 [his brother] Robert Douglas Earl Buchan (age 40) died. His son [his nephew] James succeeded 5th Earl Buchan.

Raid of Ruthven

In March 1585 [his son] Robert Douglas Master of Morton and Laurence Oliphant Master of Oliphant drowned. They had been exiled for his part in the Raid of Ruthven. The ship in which they were travelling was lost at sea.

On 24th July 1592 [his son-in-law] Archibald Campbell 7th Earl Argyll (age 17) and [his daughter] Agnes Douglas Countess Argyll (age 18) were married. She the daughter of William Douglas 6th Earl Morton (age 52) and Agnes Leslie Countess Morton (age 50). He the son of Colin Campbell 6th Earl Argyll and [his former sister-in-law] Agnes Keith Countess Moray and Mar. They were third cousins.

In or before 1595 [his son-in-law] Walter Ogilvy 1st Lord Ogilvy of Deskford (age 34) and [his daughter] Mary Douglas were married. She the daughter of William Douglas 6th Earl Morton (age 54) and Agnes Leslie Countess Morton (age 52).

In September 1606 William Douglas 6th (age 66) died. His grandson [his grandson] William (age 24) succeeded 7th Earl Morton. [his granddaughter-in-law] Anne Keith Countess Morton by marriage Countess Morton.

Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself.
