Around 1502 George Waldegrave [aged 19] and [his future wife] Anne Drury [aged 20] were married.

In November 1504 [his father] Thomas Jermyn [aged 51] died.

In 1508 [his daughter] Margaret Jermyn was born to Thomas Jermyn [aged 26] and Anne Spring [aged 14]. She married 1530 William Clopton of Kentwell Hall and had issue.

In 1511 [his son] Ambrose Jermyn was born to Thomas Jermyn [aged 29] and Anne Spring [aged 17]. He married Anne Heveningham and had issue.

After 1528 Thomas Jermyn [aged 46] and Anne Drury [aged 46] were married.

In 1530 Thomas Jermyn [aged 48] was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk.

Memoires of Jacques du Clercq

This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

On 10th March 1540 Thomas Jermyn [aged 58] was knighted by Henry VIII [aged 48].

In 1541 Thomas Jermyn [aged 59] was appointed High Sheriff of Norfolk.

In 1541 Thomas Jermyn [aged 59] was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk.

Around 1550 [his step-daughter] Anne Waldegrave [aged 50] died.

On 1st August 1551 [his step-son] George Waldegrave [aged 41] died.

On 8th October 1552 Thomas Jermyn [aged 70] died.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 21st October 1552. The xxj day of October was the feneralle of a gentyll knyght, ser Thomas Jarmyn [deceased], the best housekeper in the contey of Suffoke, with ys standard and ys penone of armes, cot-armur, target, and sword, and skochyons; and he kept a godly chapel of syngyng men, for the contray have a gret loss of ys deth, as any contrey in England.

Note. P. 27. Funeral of sir Thomas Jermyn. Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk in 33 Hen. VIII. 1541. His brave housekeeping and goodly chapel of singing-men were kept at Rushbrooke hall, near Bury St. Edmund's, where his family had been seated from a very early period. He was the lineal ancestor of Henry Jermyn, created lord Jermyn of Edmundsbury by king Charles I. and earl of St. Alban's by Charles II.

On 8th June 1572 [his former wife] Anne Drury [aged 90] died.
