In 1421 John Hody was elected MP Shaftesbury. He was re-elected in 1422, 1423, 1425 and 1427.

In 1431 John Hody was elected MP Dorset.

In 1433 John Hody was elected MP Somerset. He was re-elected in 1435 and 1437.

In 1437 John Hody was elected Speaker of the House of Commons.

Around 13th April 1440 John Hody was appointed Chief Justice of the King's Bench by patent dated 13 April 1440.

And whanne the said maister Roger sholde die, he confessid that he was nevir gilty of eny treson ayens the kyngis persone; but he presumed to fer in his konnyng, as he sayde, wherof he cride God mercy; and the justice that yaf on him iugement livid not longe aftir.
